Geale Out-Boxes Ajetovic

By Tony Nobbs: In a bout between Sydney Olympian’s Daniel “The Real Deal” Geale retained his IBO “world” middleweight bauble with a unanimous decision over British based Serbian Geard Ajetovic at the Campbelltown Catholic Club in West Sydney on Friday night.

In what was billed as 2002 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Geale’s toughest test to date, he ended up having too much skill for the challenger who simply did not throw enough punches. The early rounds were tough but the later half rounds were repetitive somewhat as Geale peppered away, not fully committing, and ex European amateur champion Ajetovic not committing at all, despite some “hurry up” from his corner.

Scores of the three judges, 117-111, 117-111, 120-109. ESB: 118-110 all for Tasmanian born Sydney sider Geale, Boxrec # 6,WBC # 15, who has been bandied as a future Anthony Mundine opponent. Ajetovic entered at # 17 Boxrec, # 14 by the EBU.

In the main support, Melbourne’s Frank Lo Porto, # 2 PABA & OPBF, out bustled Sydney’s Peter “Baby” Mitrevski, ANBF # 6 over ten rounds to keep his Aussie light middleweight strap. A hard, grinding slog with wild swinging Frank too persistent.

West Sydney’s Rob Medley, ANBF # 1 stopped Indonesian welterweight champion Ade Alfons, OPBF # 15, in round four of a middleweight scheduled eight.

Sydney’s Billy “The Kid” Dib, ANBF # 3 and WBC # 15, made it 20 zip with a three round TKO over Rey Anton Olarte, from Sydney’s Bohol Stable, super feather’s. Dib was caught by a decent shot early in the third before a smashing right uppercut sent Olarte to the mat. He beat the count but not allowed to continue. Ex Filipino champion Olarte has an official record of 10-10-3, not flash, but better than boxrec’s 4-4-1. He is rated number 7 in his The Philippines. Dib is now trained by Johnny Lewis.

Local prospect Steve “5 Star” Casserly, boxrec # 17 Australia, won on a technical decision after a head clash opened a gash over pro debuting Queenslander’s Damien Lawlor’s left eye in round three, light middle’s. Casserly was in control winning each round but “The Warwick Whip” Lawlor hung tough and showed he could win quite a few fights in future, after a 79-26 amateur slate.

In the show opener between two lefties, Steve “The Surgeon” Wills, boxrec # 5 Australia out pointed Leon “The Tiger” Marates, # 9 Philippines over four willing rounds at light welter. Marates down in the first.
