Another Bad Decision: Natascha Ragosina Beats Achieng; Stieglitz Returns With A Win

By Erik Schmidt: Female super middleweight champion Natascha Ragosina won a highly controversial ten round unanimous decision over Conjestina Achieng in Cuxhaven, Germany. The Judges scored the fight 97-93, 96-94, 97-93 for Ragosina. Ragosina barely won any rounds and rarely managed to throw any punches at all night. Achieng outlanded and outpunched Ragosina throughout the fight and recieved standing ovations from the 1000 spectators, who felt that the Kenyan was badly cheated. East Side Boxing scored the fight 98-92 in favor of Conjestina Achieng. Robert Stieglitz (32-2, 20 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO of Fawaz Nasir (13-3, 8 KOs) on the undercard..

Barely 24 hours after another Kenyan Conjestina Achieng was perceived to have lost unfairly in a contest against Natasha Ragosina, womens’ boxing’s ugly side rared its head again in a non title fight in Nairobi Kenya. Everybody at the Jevanjee Gardens agreed that Middleweight Charity ‘Scary’ Mukami won a shutout victory against fellow Kenyan Batroba Lihavi. The Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) however had other ideas and scored the fight a draw.

Promoter Atomic Bunde did not mince his words. ‘Its a disgrace, the decision is a clear affront to all boxing fans who attended the event and more so for Mukami’ He said ‘ We will launch a formal complaint on the issue though I know that the decision will stand.

Mukami was clearly in charge, stepping back at the right time, and landing clear crisp jabs on Lihavi. The crowd was shocked when KPBC Secretary General announced decision as a draw. One or two hooks that Lihavi landed on Mukami were certainly not enough to earn her a draw. Mukami’s record is now 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, while Lihavi registered her best ‘result’ adding a draw to her 0-3 record.

In other fights, Douglas Otieno won a 4 round UD against Joseph Odhiambo, while Obadiah Mwangi worked hard to overwhelm Mustaphar Noor in another 4 rounder.
