Former Champion Eric Aiken and Top Prospect Thomas Snow Added to November 1 Fight Card at Patriot Center
Beltway Boxers Add More Local Excitement to Dynamic Event
Fairfax, VA (October 16, 2008) — Two top beltway fighters, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight world champion Eric “Mighty Mouse” Aiken (16-7-1, 12 KOs) and Thomas “KO” Snow (10-1, 8 KOs), one of the east coast’s top featherweight prospects, have been added to the November 1, 2008 boxing card at the Patriot Center, Ice Promotions officials announced today. Aiken will face Miguel Rodriguez (7-1, 3 KOs), while Snow will battle Ben Odamattey (13-11, 5 KOs). Both are six-round contests on the Jimmy Lange-headlined event.
Possessing strong punching power in both hands with impressive skills and good speed, Aiken returns to fight in front of a hometown crowd for the first time since May 27, 2004, when he defeated Terrance Roy at DC’s legendary Lincoln Theatre. Aiken captured his IBF World Championship title by defeating heavily-favored and previously undefeated Valdemir Pereira on May 13, 2006. Since capturing the title he has had a string of tough losses and one draw, including a seven-round TKO loss to Monty Meza Clay last February. Aiken looks to get back on the contender track in his debut in Virginia.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, Aiken, an instructor at LA Boxing in Arlington, VA, trains under highly-regarded Adrian Davis at Round One Gym in North Brentwood, MD. He earned his popular nickname for being quiet growing up as a child, but quickly added the ‘mighty’ moniker based on his punching prowess. He amassed a 97-5 (47 KOs) amateur record, earning numerous state titles, the DC Mayor’s Cup and the Nationals twice. Fellow DC boxer Luther “Sugarman” Smith is Aiken’s cousin and is credited with introducing him to the sport.
A Puerto Rican-native now fighting out of Rochester, NY, Rodriguez is taking a major step up in competition for his fight with the former champion. In his last fight held in May 2007, he scored a fourth-round TKO over Samuel Santana.
Another prominent Washington fighter, Snow is looking to regain his winning form since dropping his first professional loss after rattling off ten straight (eight by knockout) to start his promising career. He suffered a second-round TKO loss to top-rated, undefeated Philadelphia prospect Teon Kennedy this past July in Pennsylvania. Managed by Jackie “First Lady of Boxing” Kallen, Snow won numerous accolades as an amateur, including National Golden Gloves’ quarterfinalist (2004) and semifinalist (2003) and multiple DC Mayor’s Cup titles.
Originally from Ghana, Odamattey fights out of Lion’s Den Boxing in nearby Silver Spring, MD. His showdown with Snow will be his first bout in the United States. He lost his last fight to undefeated Paul Appleby one year ago in Scotland.
Virginia’s Jimmy Lange (28-3-2, 20 KOs) returns from a 17-month layoff to face veteran Grover Wiley (30-11-1, 14 KOs) of Omaha, NE in the Main Event. Two highly-anticipated, eight-round co-feature rematches are scheduled as Baltimore’s Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow (19-0-1, 7 KOs) takes on Charlottesville, VA’s George “War Time” Rivera (8-3, 3 KOs) and Jaime “The Punisher” Palma (13-12-1, 6 KOs) of Alexandria, VA battles Smithburg, MD’s Dean “Pitt Bull” White (14-9-1, 3 KOs). Tracey Brewer (2-0, 1 KO) of Arlington, VA faces Washington, DC’s Calvin Aughtry (0-2). Making their pro debuts will be “Tattoo” Tom Mitchell of Centreville, VA, who faces Yieta Johnson (0-2) of Ashburn, VA, and Arlington, VA’s Justin Ridgway taking on Joe Haggler (1-1) of Woodbridge, VA.
