Heavyweight sensation Odlanier Solis will face another tough test in former world title challenger Owen Beck on January 9th at the “Star of the Desert Arena” at Terrible’s Casino Resort in Primm, Nevada. The US debut for 2004 Olympic gold medallist Solis will be featured on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights”. “La Sombra” will put his WBC international champion title on the line when he is looking to score his 13th win in as many pro-fights. 32-year-old “What the Heck” Owen Beck (27-3, 20 kos) had two easy comeback wins after being stopped in the 3rd by WBA champion Nikolay Valuev in June 2006.
“This is Solis’ chance to show the US public what he is made of”, states promoter Ahmet Öner. “The heavyweight division is slowly recovering from years of boredom. Odlanier is one of the guys with real superstar potential. Hopefully he can prove that on January 9th.”

Warren Defeats Herbie Hide
Boxing Promoter Frank Warren has today won his High Court Action against former World Heavyweight Champion Herbie Hide. The claim was started in 2001. It involved whether a payment of £50,000 cash made by Frank Warren to Herbie Hide was part of Mr Hide’s purse for his fight against Vitali Klitschko. For over eight years Mr Hide has claimed that the payment was not part of his purse and that Mr Warren still owed him £50,000.
The Court has today ruled that the payment of £50,000 made in cash to Mr Hide on 12 February 2000 was made in part payment of Vitali Klitschko purse.
The judge also confirmed that Mr Warren has no further liability to Mr Hide in respect of that purse. As a result of the judges decision Mr Hide was ordered to make an initial payment towards Mr Warren’s costs by January 9, 2009.
Further costs are to be assessed. The Application by Mr Hide’s Barrister to Appeal the decision was refused.
In a statement Mr Warren says “I am of course very happy with the decision. I have tried to get Hide into court for the last eight years to the settle the matter and at last it has been proven that I did pay him.”
