News: Flores vs Herrera Tonight; Ring Announcer Treiber Joins ITV; More

PENSACOLA, FL (March 21, 2009) Declaring himself “Primed and Pumped” for his cruiserweight showdown tonight, Las Vegas based BJ “EL PELIGROSO” Flores is in Pensacola, Florida for his NABO cruiserweight title against Columbian banger Jose Luis Herrera. “I’m thrilled to be here and most thankful to John Wirt and the entire Square Ring team and Mark Reels from the NABO along with Paco Valcarcel and the WBO for sanctioning this fight. I have trained very hard and will be coming in well prepared. This fight WILL not go the distance”..

The Arizona based Flores, 22-0-1 (14KO’s); now training in Las Vegas is ranked #7 by the WBO and the WBA, #9 by the WBC and #12 by the IBF in addition to being ranked #10 by ESPN.. He returned to the ring on January 23rd in Las Vegas with a third round knockout of Matt Hicks.

The Miami based Herrera brings a record of 16-5-1 into the battle with Flores, all of his wins and losses coming by knockout.

Flores has fought for the USBA and NABO title in two of his last three fights, winning a decision over the heavy hitting Darnell Wilson last February to win the USBA title..

“I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I’m glad this is fight is for NABO title. I am very excited to be fighting for this belt as it will get me closer to facing Victor Ramirez for the WBO title which I’d like to do immediately after this fight.”

The Flores/Herrera bout will be part of the “MARCH BADNESS” pay per view featuring the return to the ring of boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. in his bout against Omar Sheika.

“Roy is a true boxing legend and I’m sure it means a great deal to him to fight in his hometown. I remember watching his fight with James Toney when I was a kid; he’s truly one of the greats of the recent era..”

Prior to facing Matt Hicks, Flores won an ESPN televised twelve round decision over Darnell Wilson on February 8, 2008 for the USBA Cruiserweight Title.

THOMAS TREIBER JOINS ITV BROADCAST TEAM IN ENGLAND !!! HUGE 2009 PLANNED FOR RING ANNOUNCER

CHICAGO, IL, (March 21, 2009) Chicago based ring announcer Thomas Treiber has taken over a new territory as England’s Hennessy Sports has made plans to utilize his world class skills for their monthly ITV boxing series.

Treiber’s first trip to England was on December 6th as super middleweight Carl Froch won the World Boxing Council title against Jean Pascal in an outstanding twelve round bout at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

“It was a terrific experience for my first event with Hennessy Sports, the crowd was fantastic and they saw an outstanding battle” said Treiber.

Treiber is now part of the ITV4 broadcast team for the highly rated monthly boxing series, “THE BIG FIGHT LIVE” airing in the UK , along with North America and Australia .

Most recently, Treiber handled the ring announcing duties this past Saturday, March 14th, at the Aston Events Centre in Birmingham , England , for the British Commonwealth Middleweight Title bout between Matthew Macklin and Wayne Elcock, won by third round technical knockout by Macklin.

He will return to England for a boxing card at the historic York Hall in London on April 11th.

This coming Friday night, March 27th, Treiber will ring annouce the inaugural Windy City Fight Night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago and on April 24th, Treiber will ring announce an ESPN2 Friday Night Fights broadcast from there, presented by Golden Boy Promotions and 8 Count Productions.

In the late 1990s, Treiber received his first break as the exclusive Ring Announcer for the now defunct America Presents which at the time was promoting monthly shows that aired nationally on Fox Sports Net.

Hybrid Fighter Looking To Stay Undefeaded

Hybrid MMA fighter/Boxer, Poppies “Tachi Kid” Martinez (2-0, 1 KO), is looking to stay undefeated when he returns to the ring March 21, 2009 at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills Ca. Martinez will face Flavio Cardoza in a scheduled four round bout.
