News: DiBella Inks Isiah Thomas; Edouard vs Welliver; Brawl At The Hall

June 9, 2009) DiBella Entertainment has announced the signing of undefeated light heavyweight prospect Isiah Thomas. Thomas (3-0, 3 KOs) has no relation to the former basketball player, but much like his namesake, Thomas has built a reputation in his home city of Detroit, and is ready to show off his skills as one of boxing’s rising stars..

Having won each of his professional bouts by first round knockout, Thomas believes he has the ability to do great things in the sport. He has just been waiting to get the promotional muscle behind him.

“DBE is established,” said Thomas. “They are one of the biggest promoters in America. It’s very positive for my career.”

An accomplished amateur, Thomas has been turning heads for some time. After winning the 2005 World Championships, Hall of Fame trainer Emmanuel Steward heaped praise upon the now 20 year old prospect.

Steward, who helped guide the careers of Lennox Lewis, Tommy Hearns, and Jermain Taylor, sees much of the same potential in Thomas with whom he worked during Thomas’s amateur days.

“I have a kid who will be the next big thing, Isiah Thomas,” said Steward. “I don’t have to teach him much. He’s a gifted athlete.”

Promoter Lou DiBella believes that in Thomas he has found a budding star, and is excited about what this new signing brings to his stable of fighters.

“I think he’s a terrific prospect,” said DiBella. “He has a blend of speed and power that is extremely rare in boxing. That ability, coupled with his amateur experience, makes us believe he is one of the real sleepers in the professional ranks.”

The enthusiasm shared by both Thomas and DiBella has the young fighter confident he has found the right hands in which to entrust his career and vast skill set.

“I’m a boxer-puncher. I’m an entertainer. I have the skills the older fighters had,” said Thomas. “With my skill and their promotional ability, I can be a world champion.”

Edouard knows that this fight is incredibly important to position him for big things in the next 12 months. “Right now I just need to stay busy and keep winning and those big fights are going to come soon. There has been a lot of talk lately, and some very nice names have been thrown around. One of the opportunities that sound really appealing to me is a fight with WBA World Champion Felix Sturm. I would love that fight!”

Although Edouard is looking to really make his move in the ring in the next year, he is no stranger to doing big things inside or outside of the boxing ring. He has been seen several times televised getting big wins. In 2004 Daniel was undefeated at 15-0-2 8 ko’s when he was pitted against then undefeated knockout artist “The Gladiator” Willie Gibbs who was 17-0 14 ko’s going into the fight. In an amazing fight for Edouard, he closed the show spectacularly with a devastating fourth round knockout. Outside of the ring Edouard is nothing short of a hero to many people worldwide. Edouard, who is of Haitian descent, is the found of The Haitian Sensation Foundation. The Haitian Sensation Foundation aims to help the youth of Haiti build opportunity by bringing awareness to several sporting opportunities and offers the youth the opportunity to participate and excel in sports such as boxing, basketball, and track and field. As these sports gain popularity, and as the programs grow larger, the foundation has hopes of utilizing these sports to attract tourism as well. It also reaches into the United States where the foundation offers tutoring for children and food distribution program for immigrant Haitians in the U.S. that are in need. Along other lines the foundation also offers the immigrant youth from Haiti aid in learning the English language and help in adjusting to life in the United States.

“I’ve found through visiting with young people that if you can just help point them in the right direction and give them a little hope that many will take that hope and run with it, and it’s amazing what can be achieved” said Edouard. Of the opportunity to help set up the Haitian Sensation Foundation Edouard had this to say “I’m just very excited to be in a place in my life where I actually have the opportunity to be able to be the founder of something like this. These kids are so worth working with, and to see the excitement that comes from these kids for such easy acts such as simple encouragement it’s wonderful.

The amount of good that I can bring to their lives for doing things that are just taken for granted by most people is absolutely amazing and very rewarding. I’m simply honored.” Edouard has recently made big moves to push his career forward. He recently signed a promotional contract with Square Ring Inc. He also recent signed an exclusive worldwide marketing and representation agreement with VMG Worldwide Inc., a company that is among the world’s premier sports and entertainment companies, who is very excited about the marketing potential of the “Haitian Sensation.” Now, with a team set solidly behind him “The Haitian Sensation” looks to make his push towards winning and defending the world title, and maximize his ever growing potential, said Nick Sampson, VP VMG.
