Lamon Brewster (35-4, 30 KO´s) will return to the ring on August 29 when he takes on Gbenga Oloukun (16-1, 10 KOs) on the undercard of the WBO Cruiserweight Title Fight between Victor Emilio Ramirez and Marco “Captain” Huck. It will be Brewster´s second bout for Team Sauerland following a successful debut in March 2009 in Kiel where he cruised to a clear points victory over Michael Sprott. “I expect to put on a great performance and show how good I really am,” the former WBO Heavyweight Champion said. “I believe I am about two fights away from the world title..”
Brewster came to fame in Germany thanks to his spectacular KO victories over Wladimir Klitschko and Luan Krasniqi. A win over Oloukun in Halle/Westfalen is a must to put himself back in line for another shot at the world title. “Training is going really well,” he added. “I look forward to coming back to Germany.”
Captain Huck shares red carpet with Penelope Cruz
Marco “Captain” Huck was thrilled to share the red carpet with international superstars like Penelope Cruz, who was in Berlin this week for the official premiere of her latest movie. “Broken Embraces” will hit German cinemas on Thursday, and Huck was invited to join the official presentation and the VIP party. “It was an unforgettable experience,” he said. “I am a big fan of her and it was great to see her live. I really welcomed the change from the exhausting preparation for the Ramirez fight.”
The European Cruiserweight Champion will challenge WBO Champion Victor Emilio Ramirez in Halle´s Gerry Weber Stadium on August 29. “The sparring sessions have gone really well,” Huck added. “I will be in top shape and I will take the title from Ramirez. I like the movie title ‘Broken Embraces’. If he tries to embrace me, I´ll break him.”
DEVON ALEXANDER TO RECEIVE KEY TO CITY
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay has announced he will present St. Louis native son Devon Alexander with a ceremonial Key to the City of St. Louis on Thursday at St. Louis City Hall. Alexander won his first world title on Saturday by defeating former 140-pound world champion Junior Witter in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Mayor Slay will honor Alexander, 22, for winning the vacant World Boxing Council super lightweight championship and for setting a tremendous example for young people in his hometown by stressing the importance of education, citizenship and physical fitness.
Alexander’s trainer, Kevin Cunningham, a former St. Louis police officer who also manages IBF junior middleweight champion Cory Spinks, will also attend the ceremony.
