The Hanseatic city of Rostock on the Baltic Sea is again looking forward to a big boxing event. On October 10th at the StadtHalle in Rostock, two world title fights, plus several other high-profile fights will highlight the next “Universum Champions Night”. A bout between spotlight boxing heavyweight Sebastian Köber (18-0, 13 KOs) and Universum Box-Promotion’s Markus Tomala (6-0, 3 KOs) for the interim German heavyweight championship, has been added to the big show at the StadtHalle in Rostock. Although both unbeaten contenders are in preparation for this fight in the same Gym in Hamburg, they won’t face each other inside the ring until then..
Sebastian Köber, victorious in his 18 pro fights (13 KOs), has shown in his past fights against Jean Claude Bikoi and Dieter Roth, which he both won by knockout, that he is confident of winning this interstable challenge. Markus Tomala (26), who has been working with his coach Artur Grigorian for this fight, is successful in his six pro bouts and won 3 of them inside stoppage time. With a victory he would claim his first title as a professional.
Double world champion Ina Menzer vs. world champion Esther Schouten
The highly popular featherweight champion Ina Menzer (24-0, 9 KOs) returns to Rostock. The unbeaten Menzer will defend her WBC and WIBF belts against newly crowned WIBF super bantamweight champion Esther Schouten (24-5-1, 13 KOs). The bout will be a rematch of their hotly contested match, named the “fight of the year” in January in Düsseldorf which Menzer won on points.
Double world champion Susi Kentikian vs. world champion Julia Sahin
The “Killer Queen” Susi Kentikian (25-0, 16 KOs), considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best in womens boxing, will have her first appearence in Rostock. In a eagerly awaited battle she will defend her WBA and WIBF flyweight world titles against unbeaten WIBF light flyweight world champion Julia Sahin (20-0, 2 KOs) who returns to the ring after a year of inactivity.
Heavyweight contender Denis Boytsov also seeing in action in Rostock – a battle against Bakhtov called off
In good memory to the fans is certainly Denis Boystov (25-0, 20 KOs). The unbeaten KO artist thrilled the crowd in his last fight in Rostock in February with an impressive knockout over the Puerto Rican „King Kong“ Israel Carlos Garcia. The Russian Denis Boytsov is coming off a brutal KO of then WBA #2 rated Taras Bidenko in Oberhausen this June. A planned heavyweight clash between WBA #5 Boytsov and WBA #10 and fellow countryman Denis Bakhtov will not take place after the Bakhtov camp unexpectedly called off the fight at the end of last week. Boytsov, however, will remain on the card and a new foe is being sought.
Also scheduled at the „Universum Champions Night“ in Rostock is the local shooting star Marcel Meyerdiercks of the spotlight boxing team. The unbeaten featherweight of Wismar displayed a great performance in his last fight in Hamburg against the experienced Spaniard Juan Garcia Martin.
In a further highlight, highly regarded 2008 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Rachim Tschakchijew, who signed with Universum last month, will be making his pro debut. Chakhkiev will campaign in the cruiserweight division.
The opponents of Denis Boytsov, Marcel Meyerdiercks and Rakhim Chakhkiev as well as additional bouts will be announced within the next weeks.
The ZDF will televise live from Rostock at 10:00pm.
