RILEY LOOKS TO KEEP ON ROLLING AT VIP BOXING
On September 30th Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing will present its second installment of VIP Boxing at the beautiful Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, NY. Headlining the show will be Star Boxing’s heavyweight prospect, the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Captain, “Devastatin” Devin Vargas (17-1, 7KO) taking on Terrell “Baby Bull” Nelson (8-8, 5KO).
Fighting in the co-feature bout of the evening, will be Star Boxing’s red hot light heavyweight, “Terrible” Yathomas “The Punisher” Riley (7-0, 5KO). Riley who is coming off two highlight real knockouts (TKO2 July 16th & KO1 August 1st) will be taking on Otgonbayer Daivii (3-2-1, 1KO). The bout is scheduled for six rounds in the light heavyweight division.
Riley, who hails from Miami-Dade County, but now lives and trains out of the Bronx, was the 2006 National Golden Gloves Champion. He turned pro in February of 2008, scoring a fourth round TKO over Borngod Washington. Since then Riley’s stock has been on the rise.
The southpaw Riley, a devastating puncher with knockout power in either hand, looked to be tested in his last fight when he took on Tiwon Taylor. Taylor, an experienced veteran with more then forty fights under his belt as a professional (26-15-1, 19KO), had been in with the likes of the Lou Del Valle, Elvir Muriqi, Omar Sheika, Adrian Diaconu, and Daniel Judah. In his last fight before taking on Riley, Taylor lost a close decision to world rated super middleweight contender, Joey Spina (25-1-1, 17KO). But just three minutes, and two knockdowns later, Riley had brutally stopped Taylor in the very first round.
“Yathomas keeps improving each time out,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and founder of Star Boxing. “His last two fights were supposed to be his toughest, and he completely annihilated both opponents we put in front of him. Anytime he steps in the ring you have to make sure you don’t blink, because if you do you might miss the fight. We feel that Yathomas has the style the fans want to see, and the excitement and tenacity that he brings to the sport will enable him to become a fan-favorite and king of the light heavyweight division. We expect another fantastic showing from him come September 30th.”
The show will kick off at 7PM sharp with an hour long cocktail reception. Immediately following the reception, a four course elegant dinner will start being served, at which time the first bout will go on. There will be cocktail service throughout, with an open bar running for the remainder of the evenings fights.

“Pretty Boy” Louis Bounces Back
After suffering his first loss at the hands of Prenice Brewer in Hollywood, Florida last month, “Pretty Boy” Michael Jean Louis (10-1) came back much wiser and stronger and destroyed tough veteran Maxmino Cuevas by knocking him down in the first round and then he finished Cuevas off in the 2nd with a powerful left hook knocking Cuevas down to the canvas and the referee quickly stopped the fight. “I was in an intense training camp for 2 weeks prior to the fight. My sharpness and conditioning are the best of my life. I want to avenge my loss to Prenice Brewer. Brewer is a great fighter, but whenever Brewer wants to rumble again I am ready. I will stop him.” Louis stated.
In the Co-Main Event of the Night, Anthony Greenidge won by unanimous decision over veteran journeyman, Thoams Davis. Greenidge coming off 2 straight losses, came back with a vengence by shooting quick sharp accurate shots to the body of Davis. Davis could not handle the intense body work by Greenige and resorted to grabbing and holding. The excessive grabbing and holding resulted in a point deduction against Davis in the 5th Round. Greenidge won by scores of 60-52, 60-52, 60-52.
In the fight of the night traditional journeyman John Trigg stopped William Lavinski by TKO in the 4th Round of a 5 Round fight. Trigg knocked Lavinski down in the 1st Round when Lavinski, who is a southpaw, was in the process of switching to orthodox. In the 2nd and 3rd Rounds Lavinski tried to finesses Trigg and was scoring quite a few punches; however, the tenacity of John Trigg was too much for the young fighter to handle. Both Lavinski and Trigg fought their hearts out with Trigg prevailing in the 4th Rd by TKO. Hats off the William Lavinski for being a true warrior. John Trigg stated that he will continue on his journey to reverse his fight record from being an opponent’s record to being the record of a contender.
In the other undercard fight of the night, Eric Quinteros defeated Alphonso Alexander by UD in a 4 Rd Fight. Both fighters came into the fight with no wins. Quinteros was (0-3) and Alexander was (0-2) so someone’s 0 had to go. Both fighters fought intensely. However, Quinteros was extremely busy throwing at least 100 punches per round. Alexander simply could not keep up with the intense work rate of Quinteros. Quinteros won by UD in 4 Rds.
