News: Ran Nakash Remains Unbeaten; Vanderpool Promotions kicks off Oktoberfest with live boxing

PHILADELPHIA (OCTOBER 5, 2009)—Ran Nakash to another step towards fighting for a world title as he scored a tough unanimous decision over Gary Gomez in an eight cruiserweight bout that highlighted the sixth annual Cancer Awareness night at The Legendary Blue Horizon this past Friday night. For Cancer Awareness night, Blue Horizon Boxing Inc. had Cancer groups from the area handing out information about the dreaded disease and honored oncologist, Dr. Edith Mitchell..

Nakash was very efficient in scoring the unanimous decision over tough veteran Gary Gomez in the main event.

Nakash used his speed advantage to land quick combinations but the game Gomez kept coming forward and provided Nakash his stiffest challenge to day.

Graziano was hyped as being a knockout artist and he did not disappoint. Fans could tell early that he has a fan friendly as he battered late-replacement Andre Hemphill inside of one round two keep his impressive knockout streak intact at 7-0 with seven knockouts including six in the opening frame.

Other winners from Friday night included Mondre Pope’s close split decision over Gerardo Robles in a six round Lightweight bout, Darrell Jones defeating Achmad Tuba in a Jr. Middleweight bout; Joe Alonso remaining undefeated with a unanimous decision over Vaughn Anderson; Ryan Carson stopping Jonathan Ocassio in the last second of their Jr. Lightweight bout and Paul Fernandez unanimous decision over Quincy Johnson in a Featherweight bout.

2nd Annual OktoberFist – 2009 Bavarian Bouts

Ziggy Zaggy, Ziggy Zaggy … Box Box Box? It’s that wonderful time of the year again when the lederhosen gets pulled out of the closet, the chicken dance begins to play and the boxing gloves of the Destiny Team boxers are used for a showdown at this years annual OktoberFist.

Hosted by Syd “The Jewel” Vanderpool, the 2nd Annual OktoberFist – The Bavarian Bouts, are sure to be a hit as their main event of the evening will be showcasing Natasha “Nightmare” Spence in her final amateur fight. Natasha is the 2009 Golden Glove Champion and was recognized as best female novice boxer of the tournament.

Also in attendance will be 3 time Golden Glove Champion and 3 time Golden Glove best overall boxer Julius “Caesar” Bunda and Junior “The Show” Dann. Both fighters will be starting their professional career this fall. Eric Bryson, stunt coordinator of movies such as The Pacifier, The Day After Tomorrow, and Dawn of the Dead, will be in attendance as well.

OktoberFist will take place on October 9, 2009 in the Bingeman’s Ballroom in Kitchener. Doors open at 6:30 pm and live boxing will begin at 7:30 pm. A silent auction will be running throughout the duration of the event, with a portion of the proceeds going towards the Miss Oktoberfest Scholarship Fund and Destiny Youth Boxing programs.

Vanderpool Promotions kicks off Oktoberfest with live boxing

KITCHENER, ON – The town of Kitchener, Ontario is a town rich in history, but its two proudest traditions are Oktoberfest and boxing.

On Friday, October 9, Vanderpool Promotions brings together the best Kitchener has to offer, as Bingeman’s plays host to OKTOBERFIST, a showcase of some of the top amateur boxing talent in Canada.

In the main event, Kitchener’s own Natasha “The Nightmare” Spence will make her final appearance as an amateur. The Ontario Golden Gloves champion will be turning pro this fall, along with Destiny Boxing stablemate Julius “Cesar” Bunda, who will be in attendance to sign on for his first professional bout during intermission.

Soon following in their footsteps will be top-level amateurs and Golden Gloves champions Lucas “Death” Rowe, Jessica “The Cobra” Camara and Shawn “The Flurry” Murray, who will all be in action on Friday night as well.

Making it all happen is one of Kitchener’s most celebrated athletes, former super middleweight champion Syd Vanderpool, who has hung up the gloves and traded in the trunks and robe for a promotional outfit which will commence running professional boxing events in January of 2010.

Vanderpool has a hand in United Boxing Promotions (www.unitedpromotions.ca), which has already scheduled six events at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, ON.

Bunda figures to be an integral part of the events as he embarks upon a professional career.

Fans will have a chance to meet with Vanderpool, Bunda, and a host of local celebrities, including one of Canada’s top fitness models, Mel Warrington, both during a VIP dinner and during intermission.
