Vazquez vs. Priolo Undercard Announced
LOS ANGELES, October 4 – Unbeaten since 2005, and with wins over Kevin Kelley and Gamalier Rodriguez, junior lightweight up and comer “Dangerous” David Rodela has paid his dues on his way up the ranks. But on Saturday, October 10, at Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles, Rodela will be put to the test once again in an eight round bout against Mexican warrior Aldo Valtierra in the co-featured bout of HBO Plus’ “Next Boxing Generation”.
In the evening’s main event, Two-time Junior Featherweight World Champion Israel “El Magnifico” Vazquez will take on perennial contender Angel Priolo in a ten round featherweight fight which is presented by Golden Boy Promotions, Espinoza Boxing Promotions and Sycuan Ringside Promotions and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and Southwest Airlines. The Vazquez vs. Priolo and Rodela vs. Valtierra fights will be broadcast live on the HBO Plus service in Latin America beginning at 7 PM local time (10 PM ET). Doors open at 3:30 PM and the first fight begins at 4:30 PM
Tickets, priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25, are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the STAPLES Center Box Office.
Oxnard, California’s “Dangerous” David Rodela (14-1-2, 6 KO’s) has made a consistent move up the ranks in the 130-pound weight class in 2009. He has faced some tough and experienced opposition and came out on top with victories over Gamalier Rodriguez, Julio Gamboa, Jose Luis “Mapachito” Soto Karasss and former World Champion “Flash Flushing”
Kevin Kelley. But if the 27-year-old wants to keep the momentum going, he must defeat Valtierra.
Mexico City native Aldo “Pato” Valtierra (25-11, 13 KO’s) has seen it all in his 13 years in the fight game and his recent two fight split with highly regarded prospect Jorge Teron shows that he still has some tricks up his sleeve when facing off against the game’s top rising talent. A seasoned competitor who has been in with the likes of Julio Pablo Chacon, Hector Acero Sanchez, Antonio Diaz and Steven Luevano, Valtierra expects to take Rodela into some deep water on October 10.
Another one of Golden Boy Promotions’ golden prospects, undefeated lightweight Carlos Molina (9-0, 5 KO’s), hopes to dazzle his California fans once again on October 10. Back in LA for the third time as a professional, the Norwalk, California native has halted Ever Perez and Antony Nelson in his last two appearances in the City of Angels and he wouldn’t mind adding another knockout win to his record this October. He will have to get past 27-year-old Grand Junction, Colorado native Cesar Holguin (9-2, 3 KO’s), who is currently riding a four fight win streak and is gearing up for a war against Molina. Molina and Holguin will see action in a six round bout.
Molina’s Southern California stablemate Ronny Rios (7-0, 3 KO’s) is back in the ring for his sixth bout of 2009. The undefeated former national amateur champion from Santa Ana, California will take on Miami, Florida’s John Wampash (1-2-1, 1 KO) in a six round featherweight battle.
Also in action in non-televised bouts will be another California native in former Lightweight Interim World Champion Jose Armando Santa Cruz (26-4, 15 KO’s) of Lincoln Heights who returns to the ring for the first time in over a year to face Zacatecas, Mexico’s Sergio Macias (14-17-1, 6 KO’s) in a six round welterweight fight. LA featherweight prospect Khabir Suleymanov (8-0, 3 KO’s) will also see action against an opponent to be announced in a six round bout.
In an intriguing contest scheduled for six rounds, unbeaten welterweight up and comers collide when Chihuahua, Mexico’s Luis Grajeda (6-0, 5 KO’s) squares off against Swansea, Wales’ James Todd (2-0-1). Also in welterweight action will be El Monte, California’s Ricky Duenas (3-1, 1 KO) tackling Santa Ana, California’s Jose Cardenas (1-2, 1 KO) in a four round battle.
Opening up the show will be a four round junior bantamweight bout between debuting Los Angeles native Oscar Venegas against Hugo Ramos (2-3-1, 1 KO) of Palm Springs, California.
