“Balkan War” for the WBF middleweight title

It will be a “Balkan War” in Dessau, Germany (Oct. 24) on the undercard of Botha vs Fischer as Albania’s Kreshnik ‘The Eagle’ Qato (20-6, 4 KO’s) and Gogi ‘Lionheart’ Knezevic (16-2-1, 7 KO’s) from Serbia will clash for the WBF ‘world’ middleweight title.

The bout bears a special meaning due to the heritage of the two boxers. Ten years ago, a bloody battle was fought for Kosovo between Albanian nationals and Serbians, and the scars of that war in the Balkan are still visible today.

“I know both of them and they are exemplary sportsmen with lots of respect for their opponents,” said Fight Production manager Olaf Schroeder, “Thus, whoever wins, the fight will show the world that boxing unites all people and that fighting should only be done in the ring.”
