Angulo Sets Up Camp in Shaw’s Stately Wayne Manor – News

From the “man bites dog” department, 154-pound contender ALFREDO “Perro” ANGULO has moved his training camp from the familiar confines of Coachella, Calif. to the Wayne, NJ home of his promoter — Gary Shaw’s stately Wayne manor. Angulo (16-1, 13 KOs), of Mexicali, Mexico, takes on unbeaten Harry Joe Yorgey (22-0-1, 10 KOs), of Bridgeport, Penn., in a 12-round WBO Inter-Continental junior middleweight title rumble, in a spectacular co-feature between Top-Five world-rated contenders, live on HBO World Championship Boxing, Saturday, November 7, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT, from the XL Center in Hartford. The winner will likely earn the right to contend for a world title in the next year.

“Angulo wanted to get acclimated to the climate and the time difference early so I invited his team to stay with me for this phase of training camp,” said Shaw. “I for one have benefited from this because I’m with him almost 24/7 when I’m in home, which has kept me on a dietary straight and narrow. In fact, the police stopped by the house yesterday because my local Dunkin’ Donuts filed a missing persons report! Seriously, it’s just good business. Why wouldn’t I do everything I could to help my fighter win? It was a no-brainer, plus, it’s been a lot of fun. My family has really enjoyed having them here and it’s made Angulo and me a little bit closer.”

“I don’t know of any other promoter who would do this for his fighter,” said Angulo. “Gary knows this fight means everything to me and I didn’t want to leave anything to chance. Gary was kind enough to house my team to allow me to train early on the east coast. Harry Joe Yorgey is standing between me and a shot at a world title. On November 7, Yorgey won’t be standing at all when we meet in Hartford.”
