WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck (26-1, 20 KOs) today caught up with the German press ahead of his December 5 clash against interim champion Ola Afolabi (14-1, 6 KOs). The two fighters will lock horns at the Arena Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg, and Huck is eager to get back into the ring following his success over Victor Emilio Ramirez. “I already look forward to December 5,” he said. “Afolabi is a tough fighter. He stopped Enzo Maccarinelli. But he will not defeat me. I have worked so hard to become world champion. My plan is to make a lot of successful title defences and I will start with the one against Afolabi..”
Coach Ulli Wegner, who guided Arthur Abraham to a successful Super Six World Boxing Classic debut last Saturday, is convinced that Huck has a golden future ahead. “He has improved a lot,” Wegner said. “I was so pleased that he became world champion. You must not forget that he has very little experience as an amateur. But he listens to me in practice and he keeps learning. If he will stick to the game plan against Afolabi, he will win, even though I really expect a tough fight.”
In the second main fight of the night, IBF Youth Middleweight Champion Dominik Britsch (16-0, 5 KOs) will be out to please his home fans. “I was born just 25 miles away from Ludwigsburg in Neckarsulm,” the 22-year-old said. “I expect a lot of fans to support me in the ring on December 5. I will put on a great show.” His opponent will be announced shortly.
Tomasz Adamek Cruiserweight – Heavyweight
Tomasz Adamek’s promoter, Kathy Duva, CEO Main Events, commented about Adamek testing the heavyweight waters in his upcoming fight against Andrew Golota on October 24 in Lodz, Poland.
“Tomasz is the Ring Belt Cruiserweight Champion, he holds something very valuable and he is not going to give it away. He doesn’t have to make any decisions right now. Tomasz is very comfortable at both weights; it’s a win-win situation. We want to keep all our options open.”
“Nobody can take away my “Ring” Belt without beating me in the ring. And that will not happen” said Adamek, making his first comments after he relinquished his IBF cruiserweight title. “I’m open to fight best cruiserweights in the world if this is what television and the fans want me to do. Can you be the best cruiserweight in the world and try to be best heavyweight? Why not?”
