Carl Dilks the opponent for Charles Adamu on December 18

Prince Dornu-Leiku – It has now been confirmed that Ghana’s Charles ‘the Crusader’ Adamu will fight 26 year old Briton Carl ‘Dynamite’ Dilks on December 18 for the vacant Commonwealth Super Middleweight title. Dilks who lives in Liverpool in the UK has a career record of 13-1 (0 KOs) and is the man who stands between Adamu and a recapture of the title the Ghanaian lost to another UK boxer Carl Froch back in 2004. The fight headlines the Sky Sports Friday Nights card and takes place in York Hall, Bethnal Green in London a week to Christmas. Adamu and Dilks are fighting for the title after the Commonwealth Boxing Board (CBB) stripped champion Jermain Mackey of Bahamas. Mackey had several times since 2007 pulled out at last minutes in intended title defences against Charles Adamu..

The CBC could handle it no more when Mackey who was again scheduled to fight the Ghanaian last October 31, instead took a shot against Canadian Super Middleweight champion Adonis ‘Superman’ Stevenson for the vacant WBC title in Canada. Mackey lost by a 5th round technical knock-out and also got stripped of his Commonwealth title by the CBB whose rules direct thus.
Carl Dilks is moving down in weight from his regular Light-heavyweight division for the fight that has been touted by the English press as the toughest of his career. “I just can’t wait for it, I’m just so happy that this opportunity has come up and we’ve jumped at it. I always said that I was a super-middleweight and on December 18 I’ll prove it,” Dilks told the Liverpool Echo amid revealing that he’s already less than a stone over the weight limit.
Adamu known as the Crusader has pledged to defeat journeyman Dilks who has never won a fight by knock-out, the short notice notwithstanding. “There is no other choice, it is a fight which is compulsory to win. I just have to win and nothing will stop me. The message to Ghanaians is as usual to pray for me,” said Adamu, who depending on visa acquisition success will travel to the UK over the weekend for next weekend’s big fight.
