Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (33W-2 L, 21KO’s) heavyweight contender has reached a boiling point in his quest to return to title status in the heavyweight division. Thompson has been persistence in lobbying for a fight with the likes of James Tony, Manuel Quezada, Fres Oquendo and Chris Arreola. But according to the southpaw patience and being a gentleman gets you know where in this sport.
“I’ve tried to take the gentleman’s route in being polite and showing good sportsmanship. But no one hears that f—-n noise. So its time I take the gloves off(to get someone to put them on with) and call out these cowards that continue to duck someone like myself over and over again,” said Thompson. “I run from no one. I went to Germany and beat Laun Krasniqi in his own back yard. I took a fight against Chaz Witherspoon with a three week notice and beat him in his own home town. Chaz was my friend before the fight and still is my friend today. But I told everyone that I will fight who ever I have to in order to get back to the title.. I would fight my own brother if it stood in the way of me getting a title shot again. The long and the short of it is I will fight anyone and anybody in the heavyweight division anywhere. So I really am sending this message to all those punks who are not man enough to answer my call.”
Thompson who called out Quezada early this year has been following the fighter’s remarks about not having an opponent for his upcoming April 8th date.
“Manuel Quezada is running his mouth about how good he is and how no one wants to fight him and how he has this open date for April 8th….Well I am hear to tell you Manuel I can solve that problem for you on April 8th….You claim you are ready to fight the top guys in the heavyweight division then put your money where your mouth is…I am ready to go right now lets get in the ring and make this thing happen. That is, if you are man enough…You talk about not having the opportunity to fight on TV well I got a date and we can make this thing happen on TV..All you have to do is say YES.”
Thompson also went to task regarding James Toney.
“Everyone knows about the accomplishments that you have made in the boxing world. But all that is in the past and the future is now. Dan Goosen had offered me the opportunity to fight you on ESPN in April. So stop talking about how good you are and who the best American heavyweight is and let’s prove it in the ring. You and I both know that there are not many TV dates out there and we have the opportunity to take one. So as you say lets get it on and poppin. Let’s find out once and for all who the best Tony is in the ring.”
Thompson feels like he has been quiet enough and now is the time to stand up and call out all those who continue to run and Fres Oquendo is on that list.
“Fres you and I both know that my team has reached out to your team on several occasions trying to make a fight with you. I don’t understand why we can’t get any response from your team..When I hear you keep screaming about nobody wants to fight you…Why haven’t you mentioned my name am I contagious? Any way, what did you accomplish by fighting Demetrice King, a guy that has a 15-17 record, NOTHING… If you want to get to a title shot you have got to fight title caliber fighters and that road comes through me…I am “6-6” inches tall and a southpaw that packs a devastating left hook..So if you are serious then have your team return the calls from my team then we can make this thing happen and stop talking about it.”
There is truly a since of urgency for Thompson who has seen too many with much less go before him only to be turned around. He is willing to do any and everything in his power to get a second chance and to return to a title fight.
“No more Mr. Nice Guy that s— don’t get me know where. I am putting a bounty on every person’s head standing in my way of a title shot and Chris Arreola that means you too baby…Oh yea I still want you..I am right on your ass..When ever you are ready to get real I am here for you…I am going to do everything I have to do to get another shot at Vladimir Klitschko’s ass. . In July of 2008, I stepped into the ring as man fighting against Klitschko for the heavyweight title and that night the better man won. I make no excuses for that night. I landed more punches against him than any other fighter on record. But yet I have seen others do far less than I against him and get another chance and that’s what I am fighting for a second chance. I will fight any and every fighter put in front of me to get that second shot at the title. You can bet your money on me..I will become the heavyweight champion.”
