He has a sensational knock out rate of 85 percent: Cruiserweight hopeful Alexander Alekseev (19-1, 17 KOs). On Saturday the Universum fighter watched the title defence of WBO world champion Marco Huck and in an interview with boxing.de he made comments on this fight.
Mr. Alekseev, have you watched the fight Huck vs. Richards?
Alexander Alekseev: „Sure I have seen this awkward fight on TV as it was in my weight division and they were fighting for the world title I want to win. I’m currently rated #2 of the WBO rankings..“
What did you think about the fight?
„Huck’s opponent was weak and he had nothing to do with world title level. Huck himself didn’t show much why he is the world champion. I haven’t seen anything interesting and I have wasted time watching by this fight. I could have gone to bed earlier. I’m offering Marco Huck to challenge me in his next fight so he would have a real challenge. The fight would last longer than three boring rounds but it could also end for Huck early. Instead of thinking about fights against Haye or Klitschko he should fight against challengers like me.“
You have lost against Ramirez in January 2009. Why are you now ready to challenge Huck?
„The defeat against Ramirez was a surprise to everyone and to me but I have analysed my weaknesses. I have worked very hard since than and continuously improved on my strengths.“
What were your weaknesses and what were your strengths?
„I wasn’t focussed 100 percent on that fight but I have worked up everything. I’m looking forward to the future now and I have made some changes. My trainer Fritz Sdunek has retired and I have found in Magomed Schaburow my new trainer. I have been and I am working under the influence of two world class trainers, what else do you want. It couldn’t be better. I’m confident that I have improved in the last couple of months and it became clear in my last fight against Daniel Ammann and you will see even more in the upcoming fights.“
When will you return to the ring?
„2010 will be a very challenging and successful year for me. I have been to a high altitude training camp in Austria with my trainer Magomed Schaburow for the past three weeks. It will the basis for the entire year. It looks like that my next fight will be in May. I’m hoping to climb on the world title throne year. For this dream I’m giving 200 percent.“
