Reading, PA (March 16, 2010) – Heavyweight prospect Travis Kauffman will return to his hometown of Reading, PA in his first title fight against Chris Koval of Youngstown, OH on May 22 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. The bout is scheduled for ten rounds and will be contested for the WBF and UBO Heavyweight championships. The Kauffman-Koval title fight will headline King’s Promotions’ “Pain on Penn Street”, an exciting night of boxing action featuring seven (7) professional fights and five (5) amateur fights..
The amateur portion of the card will feature Reading’s finest young amateurs testing themselves against the top fighters from Philadelphia.
Kauffman, 19-1 (15 KO), is coming off a technical showcase against Mike Miller just two weeks ago in Allentown, PA and is eager to show his hometown fans he is better than ever since his only pro loss to Tony Grano last September. The 24-year-old Kauffman understands that if he is to move on to bigger and better things he must get past the heavy hands of Chris Koval, 24-6 (18 KO).
“It’s always a great opportunity to fight in front of my hometown fans,” said Kauffman. “I’m ready to get back in there and fight again right now. Koval is a tough guy who can punch a little so I know I’m in for a real fight here.”
In the co-featured fight, Reading, PA’s Jason Cintron is looking to continue on his hot streak when he faces off with Norwalk, CT’s Shakha Moore in an eight-round junior-welterweight fight. Cintron, 12-1 (3 KO) won a dominant decision victory in his last fight against Maurice Chalmers just two weeks ago and looks to make another statement against the 10-15-3 (2 KO) southpaw Moore.
Also, lightweight Van Oscar Penovaroff (4-0-1, 3 KO) of Kailua Kona, HI, junior-middleweight Keenan Collins (12-5-2, 8 KO) of York, PA, bantamweight Joey Silva (9-2, 4 KO) of Denver, CO, middleweight Derrick Webster (5-0, 4 KO) of Glassboro, NJ, heavyweight Craig Tomlinson (25-15-1, 13 KO) of Reading, PA will appear on the card in separate bouts against opponents to be named shortly.

Dominic Vea spars with Danny Green ahead of both boxers’ April bouts
This week and next, Australia’s No. 2 ranked cruiserweight boxer Dominic Vea takes his preparation for his next fight up a notch, when he spars Australia’s No.1 ranked cruiserweight, Danny Green. 28 year-old Vea (12-1, 10KO), the current OPBF and WBO Oriental cruiserweight title-holder, faces Anthony McCracken (11-4, 4KO) on 8 April at Sydney’s Star City Casino, while Danny Green (28-3, 25KO) defends his IBO Cruiserweight title against Puerto Rican Manny Siaca (22-6, 19KO) on 14 April in Perth.
Last year, Green selected Vea as a sparring partner in preparation for his IBO title bout with Julio Cesar Dominguez. Now Australia’s top cruiserweights both stand to gain from giving each other the best preparation possible.
Dominic says, “Sparring with Danny is great training heading into this fight and will fine-tune my preparation. Danny is a recognised champion who will test me over the next fortnight. It is great that with big fights just around the corner, both of us can gain from these sessions.”
About Dominic Vea’s upcoming Commonwealth cruiserweight title fight
Vea expects a strong challenge from Anthony McCracken ahead of a confirmed Commonwealth cruiserweight title shot against Britain’s Rob Norton (32-4-2,19KO) in July.
Core Strength Gym secured the purse bid for the Commonwealth title challenge after chasing the bout for the past twelve months and will be bringing the contest to Australia. Dominic and his management plan to be stage the fight in Western Sydney, where Dominic enjoys hometown support.
2010 EASTERN REIGONAL GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPIONSHIP, SATURDAY APRIL 10TH AT THE LEGENDARY BLUE HORIZON
PHILADELPHIA (MARCH 16, 2010)—On Saturday night April 10th, some of the best amateur fighters in the state will participate in the annual Golden Gloves Open Eastern Regional Championships at The Legendary Blue Horizon.
The competition is sponsored by Joe Hand Promotions with all proceeds going to the Joe Hand Boxing Gym and Computer Lab.
This is the fifteenth year that Joe Hand Promotions has been involved with this great event.
“We are always honored to be involved with the Golden Gloves. We have been involved since our gym was located on Howard Street.”, said Joe Hand Sr., CEO of Joe Hand Promotions.
“It’s a great opportunity for us along with so many of the local businesses to give back and help some of these kids not only compete but it gives them a chance to further their careers while it helps raise money for our boxing gym and computer lab which helps hundreds of kids every year”.
Those business leaders will be honored for their contributions on April 10th.
The winners of the night’s bouts will then head to Pittsburgh for the state title and then The National Golden Gloves Tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas, May 2nd-May 10th.
There have been many great fighters who have fought in the Golden Gloves and have gone on to have distinguished professional careers such as Chazz Witherspoon, Danny Garcia, Demetrius Hopkins, Rock Allen, Shamone Alvarez and Rasheim Jefferson.
There also will be a special celebrity boxing exhibition that will feature Mike Fera, who is the president of Local 592 and head of the Cement Masons taking on Liam Mulvy, who is a currant boxing documentary producer as well as a former amateur boxing champion in the United Kingdom.
