Star Boxing: Broner vs Lora; Ahmed Samir; Delvin Rodriguez

On Friday May 14th, Golden Boy Promotions and Star Boxing, present Punchin at the Paradise 10 at the historical Paradise Theater in the Bronx. Headlining the TeleFutura “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” card is undefeated lightweight prospect, Adrien “The Problem” Broner (14-0, 11KO’s) as he squares off against “The Dominican Man” Rafael Lora (11-2, 5KO’s) over ten rounds. In the co-feature bout of the evening, two undefeated lightweight prospects collide when Newark New Jersey’s own, Mike “The Artist” Perez (7-0, 3KO’s) squares off against Francisco Reyes (5-0, 2KO’s) over six scheduled rounds..

Fighting for the first time in his adopted home of the Bronx, hot up and coming prospect Yathomas Riley (8-0, 6KO’s) looks to keep his unbeaten streak alive, and continue his climb up the ranks of the light heavyweight division, when he takes on Angel David Gonzalez (6-7-1, 3KO’s) in a six round light heavyweight match-up.

Popular Albanian super middleweight, Shqiprim “White Tiger” Muriqi (3-0, 2KO’s) looks to make it a perfect 4-0 when he meets Rondu Campbell (2-4) in a four round contest. Muriqi, who hails from nearby Yonkers, NY, is looking to follow in the footsteps of his cousin, former world title challenger, Elvir Muriqi, as he makes his debut at the Paradise Theater.

Also making his Bronx debut, will be Bronx native and two-time New York Golden Gloves Champion, Raul Lopez (3-0-1, 3KO’s) when he takes on fellow unbeaten Daniel Aquino (3-0). The bout is scheduled for four rounds in the super bantamweight division.

Also seeing action on the card is former world title challenger, “The Real Million Dollar Baby” Maureen Shea (13-2, 7KO’s) as she squares off against Puerto Rico’s Norma Faris (3-2) in a six round female super featherweight match-up. Like Lopez, the fan-favorite Shea was born and raised in the Bronx and will certainly have a strong contingent of fans on hand to show their support as she looks to get herself back into title contention.

Rounding out the card will be undefeated cruiserweight, Ahmed “The Prince of Egypt” Samir (8-0, 2KO’s) taking on “Big” John Douglas (7-13-3, 3KO’s) in a six round cruiserweight match-up.

DEGUARDIA’S NEW EGYPTIAN STAR ADDED TO PUNCHIN AT THE PARADISE

On Friday May 14th, the newest member of the Star Boxing stable, undefeated cruiserweight prospect, Ahmed “The Prince of Egypt” Samir (8-0, 2KO’s) will fight for the first time since signing with the Bronx-based promotional company, when he squares off against “Big” John Douglas at the historical Paradise Theater in the Bronx. Samir-Douglas is scheduled for six rounds, and will be one of the feature undercard bouts of the evening. The show is the tenth installment of the popular “Punchin at the Paradise” fight series, and is co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions and being shown live as part of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate”.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Samir first began boxing at just ten years of age. Samir had a prolific amateur career, that including over 200 bouts, and saw him win gold at the 2007 All- African Games in Algeria, gold at the Zone 5 African Championships in 2007 in Egypt, gold at the 2007 Arab Championships in Tunisia, as well as gold at the 2006 Jordan International Championships.

In 2007, looking to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion, Samir left his home country of Egypt and moved to New York to train at the world renowned Gleason’s Gym, in Brooklyn. Not long after moving, Samir made his professional debut at the famous Blue Horizon in Philadelphia, PA, scoring a four round unanimous decision over Kamarah Pasley.

“We had Ahmed on one of our cards in New York in 2009, and we were impressed with his boxing ability,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing. “Ahmed is talented inside the ring, and he is a very charismatic individual outside. STAR BOXING CONGRATULATES DELVIN RODRIGUEZ ON RECEIVING DOMINICAN REPUBLIC BOXER OF YEAR AWARD

Last week at the Grand Hotel and Casino in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Star Boxing’s USBA welterweight champion, and IBF #3 rated, Delvin Rodriguez (25-4-2, 14KO’s) was honored as the Dominican Republic’s boxer of the year at the annual Athlete of the Year awards ceremony. The awards ceremony included the top government officials from the Dominican Republic, as well as famous Dominican merengue singer Fernando Villalona.

“It was a beautiful experience, and a dream come true to receive such an award in front of my entire country,” stated Rodriguez, who celebrated his 30th birthday on May 4th. “Being awarded the Best Boxer of the Year, was such an honor to me, and something I will cherish for a life-time. My goal now is to win the world championship and bring the belt back to the Dominican Republic.”

Rodriguez last fought on April 2nd, defending his USBA championship by winning a unanimous decision over former world-title challenger Mike Arnaoutis at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT.
