Foot debuts on Booth-Molitor undercard

SCORCHING prospect Glen Foot will make his professional debut next month.

The Sunderland welterweight will box on the undercard of Jason Booth’s IBF world super-bantamweight title challenge against Steve Molitor at Houghton-le-Spring’s Rainton Meadows Arena on Saturday 11th September.

Foot’s dropped a narrow verdict in the ABA Final earlier this year against Dudley O’Shaughnessy in one of the most exciting amateur fights seen for years.

Foot, 22, believes his style will be more suited to the professional game and added: “I boxed for England, but my style is not really for them.

“They’re more the tippy tappy boxers and I really think I will be a crowd pleasing professional.

“I am an aggressive fighter and I have always liked Ricky Hatton’s style. I never watched a lot of professional boxing when I was in the amateurs, but he was the one man I watched.

Foot is managed by Phil Jeffries, trained by Dave Binns and Frank Maloney will promote to latest hot prospect from the north-east.

Maloney said: “A lot of rival promoters wanted to sign Glen, but I believed we have a potential star here.

“He is excitement and throws punches non-stop. He has a style that is made for television and Phil, Dave and I will bring him along right.

“There seems to be a lot of quality in the north-east and next year I may even open an office in the region.”

Londoner Matthew Marsh (13-2) will meet undefeated Scot Kris Hughes (12-0) for the vacant Commonwealth super-bantamweight crown in the chief supporting contest.

Marsh controversially lost on an 11th round cuts stoppage to Booth in February and will have one eye on the winner of the world title clash.

Other fighters on the bill include British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay (16-0) and Jon Lewis Dickinson (8-1)
