by James Slater: No doubt in response to all the “where is he?” and ”when is he gonna fight again?” questions the fans have been asking about the World Boxing Association heavyweight champion since he was last seen fighting, beating and ultimately retiring John Ruiz, David Haye has released an exclusive video of himself talking on his twitter page.
The short clip, filmed inside a gym is now up on You Tube, and Haye attempts to clear things up regarding his recent low profile. Haye, looking in great physical condition (shirtless), insists “the truth” will be told about why he was never able to come to terms to fight a Klitschko in September, and Haye also explained (partially at least) what his next move in the ring will be.
“Mr. David Haye is the only real one, the rest are fake, delete ’em,” Haye says on his video. “Everyone wants some kind of update, but unfortunately there is no real update to have at the moment, other than Adam Booth, my team, are working hard trying to get me a quality opponent..
“Everyone asks ‘where’s he been, where’s he been hiding?’ I’m busy. We (he and his partner) had a kid, I’ve been in Barbados, in America, doing bits and pieces that people will learn about in a few months’ time. But the next fight will be October, November, we’re just working on that at the moment. I was ready for the fight in September. I made sure I was in shape so that if one of the Klitschkos popped up I’d have been in shape; but unfortunately that hasn’t happened – and believe me or not, it ain’t no fault of mine, and I’ll explain that to you in a few days time.
“Stay chilled, be patient, when it comes time to tell the truth, which is gonna happen in a few days, you’ll understand and you’ll realise who really is the bitch and trust me, it ain’t me.”
So, while Haye has at least surfaced and given us a brief few words, we are still somewhat confused by a few things. Haye makes no mention of just who his upcoming “quality opponent” might be, and he certainly does not mention Audley Harrison’s name. And as for Haye saying he “was ready for the fight in September,” does he mean the fight with Wladimir Klitschko, which ultimately went to Samuel Peter instead?
The last thing that was reported as to why the Ring magazine, IBF and WBO king didn’t come to a deal to face Haye, was that Haye was unhappy with the T.V money he was being offered. Is Haye now referring to Wladimir as “the bitch?”
As to the revelations – the “truth” as Haye says – being made in a few days time, what on earth can we expect the WBA ruler to come out with? Will there be some shocking revelation as to just how impossible to deal with the Klitschkos really are? Haven’t we heard that before?
It’s good that Haye has shown us all he is at least keeping himself in tip-top shape, and it’s reassuring to hear he is planning on fighting someone before the year is out. But the fans won’t tolerate another tirade from Team-Haye, in which they moan about how uncompromising the Klitschkos are when it comes to making a deal. The two brothers seem to have no real problem finding themselves other challengers, do they.
Bottom line, Haye either wants to become undisputed champion or he doesn’t. Fans are no longer interested in whether or not he gets paid what he feels he deserves for the chance to do so.
