Hasim Rahman Comeback Continues: Marcus McGee Becomes a Believer

“The Rock” takes out McGee – Continues Drive to Heavyweight Title!

Alabama-based heavyweight Marcus McGee is now a firm believer in former undisputed and two-time World Heavyweight Champion Hasim “The Rock” Rahman’s comeback after lasting just three minutes against him on Saturday night at the WBA KO Drugs Festival at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama..

Fighting in front of a large crowd of boxing luminaries including the great Roberto Duran, it was immediately apparent that Rahman (49-7-2, 40 KOs) brought his “A” Game and that it was simply a matter of when McGee would be KO’d.

What appeared to be the first knockdown was ruled a slip, although Rahman landed a right hand to the head. The Baltimore native continued to patiently pump his jab, while letting the right hand go. It was a crisp right to the head that deposited McGee on the canvas once again, this time for a count of nine before he bravely got to his feet. At the end of the round, another devastating right hand finished the job, as the referee administered the 10 count after the bell ending the round. McGee stayed on the canvas for several minutes afterward.

“Hasim’s performance reminded us that he is one of the biggest punchers on the planet and he now moves one step closer to reclaiming the heavyweight title,” said his excited promoter, Greg Cohen of The Empire Sports and Entertainment.

Hasim Rahman Continues Comeback at WBA KO Drugs Festival!

Former undisputed and two-time World Heavyweight Champion Hasim “The Rock” Rahman (48-7-2, 39 KOs) continues his comeback Saturday night at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama, at the WBA KO Drugs Festival.

Rahman has scored three impressive knockouts since his December 2008 unsuccessful challenge for Wladimir Klitschko’s IBF and WBO Heavyweight Championships. He will be looking to make opponent Marcus McGee the fourth.

“The Rock is rounding into world championship form by keeping busy like this,” said Rahman’s promoter, Greg Cohen of The Empire Sports and Entertainment. “He’s looked unstoppable in his last three fights, but to keep himself thought of as a viable world-title challenger he’s got to continue to look good in every fight.”

Rahman’s battle against McGee will serve as one of the main supporting bouts on a mammoth 12-fight event headlined by Luis “El Nica” Concepcion vs. Denkaosan Kaovichit for the WBA flyweight interim world title and Guillermo “El Felino” Jones vs. Valery Brudov for the WBA regular cruiserweight world title.

“When I started The Empire seven months ago, one of my first goals was to get heavyweight title shots for my two marquee fighters, Shannon Briggs and Hasim Rahman, explained Cohen. “Shannon has his opportunity coming up against Vitali Klitschko. And now, with Hasim fighting on such a prestigious event in front of so many important boxing luminaries, if he scores another impressive win, I can see him moving a big step closer to his title shot as well.”
