By James Slater – Now that the unfortunately postponed “Super Six” clash between Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham has found a new date and venue – Nov. 27th in Helsinki. The fight would have happened last night had it gone off as scheduled – both fighters are talking a great fight; promising to defeat the other. Froch is fully recovered from the back injury that put paid to the Oct.2nd date, and as usual he is talking a great fight..
Speaking with Sunday Mercury, “The Cobra” vowed he will make “King” Arthur see lights from the canvas on November 27th!
“Abraham has been declaring that the Mikkel Kessler fight has deeply affected me. He’s right. It has given me even more confidence,” Froch said. “With late cancellations and a last minute flight (to Denmark, in April, for the losing fight Vs. Kessler) under a volcanic ash cloud, I stepped into the lion’s den in front of 12,000 crazy Vikings and punched holes in their hero for 12 solid rounds.
“I was unlucky not to get the nod – but I’ve proved my class on any stage, home or away. Abraham got beaten up and outclassed by Andre Direll, a man I’ve already beaten. When Abraham is out of the comfort zone he gets exposed. He’ll be able to see the Northern Lights from the canvas when I’ve finished with him in Finland!”
The stakes couldn’t be higher for either man. Both are coming into the crucial fight off a loss and a win is needed in November so as to see either Froch or Abraham through to the semi-finals. Both men, deep down, surely know the fight will be as tough as is imaginable, and both men surely know also that the fight could go either way. It could well be a case of who wants it more.
Froch, by the way, told Steve Bunce earlier this week that he is amazed his upcoming fight with Abraham is not for the vacant WBC title.
“I thought our fight would be for the vacated title, but for some reason, the Ward-Dirrell fight will contest it,” Froch said. “It’s one of those strange things, for some reason Dirrell, though I beat him, is ranked one place above me in the WBC rankings.”
Fans are still arguing about Froch’s close points win over Dirrell, scored a year ago. Some say the hometown fighter was the recipient of a gift decision in his native Nottingham, while others correctly state that Dirrell was way too negative in the fight and deserved the points loss.
Rest assured, though, with their ring styles the way they are, Froch-Abraham doesn’t figure to be the awkward, difficult to score fight Froch-Dirrell was. Very likely to be an out and out war, the quality punches will come thick and fast. Can Froch do as he says and leave Abraham on the canvas, or will it be the other way around?
I for one will be shocked if November’s fight goes the full 12-rounds.
