ST. LOUIS, MO (November 3, 2010) Super middleweight Kevin “The Hitman” Engel is preparing for WAR this Friday night, November 5th as he battles undefeated prospect Marcus “Too Much” Johnson at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota.
The scheduled eight rounder is part of an exciting tripleheader on ShoBox: The New Generation, LIVE on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
Fighting out of St. Louis, Missouri, the heavy handed Engel, 18-3-0 (15KO’s), is looking to bounce back from his last ShoBox appearance, an outstanding back and forth battle with undefeated prospect Edwin Rodriguez on April 30th at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
“Kevin is training like a warrior for this bout. He was getting the better of Rodriguez for the first five rounds, and then Edwin caught him with a well placed body shot in the sixth that ended the fight” said Engel’s promoter Steve Smith, President of Rumble Time Promotions of St. Louis, Missouri.
“Marcus Johnson fought on the same card in the headline bout of the tripleheader that night and after two terrific bouts, he put the entire arena to sleep with his safety first, boring performance against Derek Edwards.”
“We welcome the challenge of facing another undefeated prospect; let’s see if this one is ready for a real fight.” The win over Edwards improved the 24 year old Johnson’s record to 19-0-0 (14KO’s).
Continued Smith, “Boxing has been in the doldrums for the last couple of months with no real action fights and Kevin plans on kicking it off big time in November by taking the fight right to Johnson from the opening bell.”
“Having seen Johnson fight, I don’t know why they call him “Too Much”, but he’s going to find out why they call Kevin “The Hitman.”
Also featured on the tripleheader will be the aforementioned Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, 16-0-0 (12KO’s) from Worcester, Mass., by way of the Dominican Republic, facing gritty young veteran James McGirt Jr., 22-2-1 (11KO’s), from Vero Beach, Fla., in the 10-round main event.
In the co-feature, Dyah Davis, 18-1-0 (9KO’s), of Boca Raton, Fla., meets Aaron Pryor Jr., 14-2-0 (11 KOs) of Cincinnati, Ohio in an eight-round battle.
The event is promoted by DiBella Entertainment.
