Ahead of his Super Six and WBC World title fight against Arthur Abraham, which will be live in the UK on Primetime Channel 480 on Sky and Virgin on Demand, Carl Froch revealed his thoughts on this weeks Best of Enemies encounter between Haye and Harrison.
“Who do I think will win? no surprises with my answer to that one. Haye has to be the obvious favourite based on his consistency and I will be in the majority for thinking that. He unified the cruiserweight division and so far has done the job at heavyweight. But Audley is definitely a live underdog and whatever happens, he always has that big left hand that has gotten him out of jail on occasions..
“But having sparred Haye myself when we were a bit closer in weight as amateurs, I can testify that he is difficult to nail cleanly. Sure he may have slowed down with the increase in size, but for a heavyweight he still has plenty of speed advantage over all of his rivals.
“If Haye does a complete number on Audley it would ruin him and I think the big man would call it a day. Likewise if David slips up, which I don’t think he will do, it could also be a very big defeat to take.
“But that’s the beauty of the heavyweight division when you have too big fella’s really looking to prove a point, it almost invariably ends in one going over and taking a long nap. They will probably put a pillow and a blanket down for the loser and then switch off the MEN lights for the night.
“At first many people thought that it would be a mismatch and bad for the sport. But I think the lion’s share of the public has really came around to the idea lately as rumours of Haye being hurt in sparring are doing the rounds – couple that with Audley’s ‘Yes I Can’ training in Big Bear and then throw in the 3-D element and it starts to capture the public’s imagination.
“In a soccer orientated world, it’s good to see a boxing match getting the exposure and column inches regardless of the winner. But if I had to bet hard cobra cash, it would be the Hayemaker. Sorry Audley!” said Froch.
