Last Saturday night, we witnessed one of the most incredible performances of this era, by one of the most gifted athletes of this era, in Filipino, Manny Pacquiao. Back in May, we witnessed the greatness of another transcendent talent who held the spotlight long before his true emergence, in American, Floyd Mayweather jr.
In a sport filled with great talent, yet greater uncertainty, the one thing that no one can deny is that atop the highest peak in this ‘”Grand Canyon” resides two men and two men only.
Over the course of time, history has found a way of preventing us from seeing the best face the best. Each of us have wondered what would happen if a prime Muhammad Ali faced a prime Mike Tyson. Or a prime Kobe Bryant versus a prime Michael Jordan.
Well……..for once, history got it right!
For the first, and perhaps the last time in the history of all mankind, we are privileged to live in an era where two men with a legitimate claim for unequivocal greatness co-operate. There should be no mountain high enough, and no wicked intention low enough to prevent the parties involved from meeting a middle-grounds to finally take center-stage. None!
There remains one point of contention which separates the two parties, and in an effort to move beyond this obstacle, I present the following truce:
We have all waited long enough for this moment, and when it’s over, we’ll arguably want more. Therefore, it only makes sense to have two. ONE WITH TESTING, AND ONE WITHOUT. Double the pleasure, double the stakes, more for the fans and the money they pay! Everybody wins, although one man must lose…..for in the realm of “greatest”, there can only be one!
There’s no better match to be made for either man. Goldenboy Promotions has shown us “Number One versus Numero Uno”. Top Rank has shown us “The Event”. This time when you ask the fans “WHO ARE YOU PICKING”?, you can rest assured, “THE WORLD AWAITS”!
