Following the loss to David Lemieux for the WBC International Middleweight Championship this past October, Hector Camacho Jr. has had his mind set on one thing—working his way back to a title fight and winning the championship.
Camacho Jr.—52-4-1—is currently training for his February 11 bout against Juan Astorga in El Paso, Texas. Following that fight Camacho will be stepping into the ring again on March 11, and he knows it is the start of his title run.
“Losing that championship fight in October really irks me, and I have been using it as motivation for getting ready for these upcoming fights,” said Camacho Jr. “I need to get the win and continue to win, and if I can land a huge fight by September or October then I’ll be right on point with my game plan.”
Prior to the loss Camacho Jr. won nine straight bouts, and attributes his success to his desire to excel in the sport of boxing.
“I’ve always had a huge shadow over me, and that is what keeps me going and motivated,” said Camacho Jr. about being the son of former champion and boxing legend Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho. “You have to make your own name in boxing, and it’s not only about having natural talent, you have to have dedication and discipline.”
When Camacho Jr. is not training he donates a large part of his time to working with inner city kids and is a Board Member for the nonprofit organization Find A Dream.
“I came from where a lot of these kids are coming from, and boxing was my way out,” said Camacho Jr. “Find A Dream is doing a great thing working with youth in communities throughout America. When kids don’t have a mentor or have direction, it is easy for them to stray of the path and get involved in drugs or gangs. But having an outlet like Find A Dream will help them stay on track and give them something to work for.”
Find A Dream is a nonprofit organization unlike any other. They have partnered with professionals to deliver on their promise of positive change in young lives. Communities become stronger when youth is mentored through people of character with a true interest in pouring constructive, character-building activities and input into their lives.
