Patrick Nielsen (8-0, 5 KOs) will headline the fourth TV2 Fight Night in Herning when he comes face-to-face with Gary Boulden (4-1-2) on April 2. It will be a big step up for the unbeaten 19-year-old who has been cleared to fight eight rounds at three minutes for the first time of his career. The new law will be in effect when unbeaten Nielsen steps through the ropes for the next time. “We are very grateful for the Danish Professional Boxing Federation and their president Michael Seemann to have cleared all the details with the Danish authorities,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said. “The new law will be great for Danish boxing in general and for Patrick in particular as he can now prove his worth under much tougher conditions.”
Nielsen comes off a clear points victory over Erik Avlastimov at the last TV2 Fight Night, which sold out the Kongrescenter and recorded strong prime time viewing figures. “Patrick has gotten his professional career off to a flying start,” Sauerland stated. “But on April 2, there is a new kind of challenge waiting for him. Going from 6×2 minutes to 8×3 minutes is a huge difference. It´s almost like taking two fights on the same night. Mentally and physically, this is very challenging, especially with a tough British opponent bullying you. But I am sure that Patrick will once again rise to the occasion and leave the ring victorious.”
Nielsen is looking forward to April 2. “I am hungry and I am ready for a new challenge,” he said. “My first eight fights as a professional have been tough but going from 12 minutes to 24 minutes is a big step up. I have been working really hard on my conditioning and stamina but the good news is that my fans will be able to see even more of me inside the ring. That is if I don´t knock my opponent out. In any case I can promise everybody a great night of action.”
Nielsen´s fight will be the headliner after Rudy Markussen´s neck injury prevents him from returning to action. “We will not let anybody fight who is not at 100 percent and unfortunately Rudy´s neck injury has not fully healed yet,” Sauerland said. “Fingers crossed for a quick recovery – I am confident Rudy will be back for the next TV2 Fight Night on May 21.”
The TV2 Fight night will again feature the very best of Danish boxing, including the next tests for Kasper Bruun and Kim Poulsen as well as a Scandinavian prizefighter tournament. More details will be announced in the next days. “Our Danish talents have already stirred up massive interest with their spectacular victories,” Sauerland added. “Things will not get any easier for them on April 2 when they need to overcome the next obstacles on their way up the rankings. We will put together a competitive fight card for the passionate fans in Herning and on TV2. There will be some exciting boxing action – and some match-making surprises!”
