By James Slater: David Haye, ahead of his expected fight with Wladimir Klitschko, has predicted that the younger of the two brothers will take such a beating when he fights him in the summer, that older brother Vitali will likely dive into the ring to halt the contest.
Speaking with The Daily Express, Haye said he is planning on being destructive against “Dr. Steel Hammer.”
“I know Vitali’s going to be there ringside, in Wladimir’s corner, so he’s going to see first hand the destruction that I dish out on his little brother,” Haye said. “And it’s going to be painful for him to sit back and watch me do it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the one who stops the fight, gets into the ring and drags his brother out.
“I wouldn’t want the referee to stop it. I want him to take that ten count and be completely unconscious. Hopefully I’ll do the job on Wladimir so his big brother, Vitali, gets all touchy and it hit’s a nerve.”
Bold words indeed from Haye. However, in speaking himself on the subject of the trash-talking Londoner, Vitali, ahead of this Saturday’s defence against the unbeaten Odlanier Solis, promised that it will be Haye who feels the pain when the bell rings – not he or Wladimir.
“All boxing fans want to see Klitschko-David Haye,” Vitali is quoted as saying by ESPN.com. “He talks too much. He doesn’t have another option. He had to fight. He put himself in a corner. He understands the risk to lose the fight is very big. He’s a smart guy. He knows this is not an easy task.
“He never wants to fight me. I know I will knock him out in the early rounds and Wladimir will beat him badly for all 12-rounds and knock him out in the last round. It will be very painful. I can promise him.”
It’s true that Haye has not concentrated his reaction-provoking insults on Vitali; instead taunting, and taunting, and taunting…Wladimir. Now, providing he is fit and ready in time (from that abdominal injury), the younger brother will fight Haye. If not, and as long as he wins on Saturday, it will be Vitali who climbs into the ring with the WBA champion.
Either way, Haye faces some daunting task – one he has not made any easier on himself by hurling such venomous barbs at both siblings. Unless he can come out smoking and catch, sting, stun and badly hurt Wladimir, Haye, in my opinion, will face the sure and steady beat down the champion’s previous challengers have endured. But can Haye’s blend of speed and power get the job done against Wladimir? This question, and getting an answer to it, will ensure millions of fans tune in to the fight.
But would such kamikaze-like tactics have any chance whatsoever against the rock-chinned WBC champion? Haye has done most of his talking about Wladimir, and some fans think this is because he is not so enthusiastic about the idea of a fight with Vitali. But if Haye does beat Wladimir, you can bet on “Dr. Iron Fist” doing all he can to get the opportunity to extract revenge on “The Hayemaker!”
Could we really see Haye in the ring with BOTH brothers this year?
