BIG BEAR, Calif. (April 12, 2011) More than 50 members of the media spent several hours Tuesday at the high-altitude training camp of three-division world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley. Bus transportation to-and-from Las Vegas and Los Angeles was provided by Top Rank, Inc.
On Saturday, May 7, Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), of Pomona, Calif., will challenge World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, in the main event of a blockbuster event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions, Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions, Tecate and MGM Grand, Pacquiao vs. Mosley will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV.
What Mosley said Tuesday:
“My energy is great, at a very high level. I have a lot of power in both hands. I know Pacquiao will go right to the attack which is a great advantage for me.
“I know how difficult this fight is. Pacquiao fires punches from all kinds of angles, is on his toes during late rounds and gives you different looks.
“But pure power can take over all of that. I know I will be able to get good hard punches onto Pacquiao.
Plus I have the biggest advantage of all with my chief trainer Naazim Richardson. He’s never lost a fight against a Top Rank champion.”
“I know President Obama met Pacquiao. I can deal with it. President Obama will always be my man. I will always vote for him. Someday I hope to meet the President and maybe play a little basketball.”
“Saint” George Jupp Added To Sam Webb-Prince Arron May 13th British Title Fight Card
Featherweight prospect “Saint” George Jupp has been added to the undercard of the Frank Maloney promoted Sam Webb versus Prince Arron British Light Middleweight title clash at the Medway Park Leisure Centre in Gillingham, Kent, on Friday 13th May 2011.
Being asked by Frank Maloney to feature on the card of such a prestigious event is sure to help 20 year old Jupp, from Belvedere in Kent, put the highly contentious loss to Raffi Khan, in Dagenham on March 18th, firmly behind him.
Right from the opening bell Khan went on the attack, Jupp kept his cool and kept the aggressive Khan at bay with some solid jabs. Whenever Khan came rushing forward Jupp would use superior footwork, to move out of range, or solid jabbing to stop him in his tracks. Khan was getting some success but usually his shots were wide of the mark.
Whilst it was fairly hard to call the first round, the second and third were clearly young Jupp�s, who had used his Jab to good effect throughout the middle rounds. It wasn�t just his jabbing though as Jupp also showed that his willingness to mix it up when needs be.
Khan began to rush his attacks, backing Jupp towards the ropes, and letting rip with wild shots. Most times Jupp would just step around, leaving Khan punching at fresh air, but on a couple occasions Jupp countered with both hands and about mid way through the round Jupp landed a peach of a right which opened up a cut above Khan�s eye.
Clearly aware he was behind on points Khan became even more forceful with his attacks in the final round, often letting rip with multi-punch flurries. Jupp would counter with solid jabs as before but instead of backing off Khan kept coming forward and kept the pressure up to the final bell.
When referee Ken Curtis� score card was read out – 39-38 in favour of Khan – the crowd jeered, Jupp�s manager/co-trainer Johnny Eames remonstrated with the referee and the assembled press corps, of which I was one, all agreed that Jupp had won clearly won the middle rounds and probably had done enough to claim the first also.
Following a training session, at Johnny Eames� world famous TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, Jupp spoke briefly on the Raffi Khan fight and his upcoming appearance on the Sky televised event, �I�m really looking forward to it, I lost my last fight so am really looking forward to it and get my loss out the way and get another win behind me.
It was a good fight, I thought I�d well done enough to win it. He was constantly pressuring me but wasn�t landing very much, mainly hitting the gloves or missing. I was catching him with one-twos all the time, so yeah I thought I had done more than enough to get the decision like.
Johnny�s put an appeal in but I doubt anything will get done about it, so I�m just going to try and forget about that and get onto better things and that. I�m looking forward to boxing on a big show on the undercard of Sam Webb, who I know well as he used to box at my amateur club and is here at the TKO regularly. It�s going to be good being on his undercard.
It�s a good show and pretty near to where I live so will have a lot of support. I can�t wait for it.�

Breidis Prescott vs. Bayan Jargal, Demetrius Andrade vs. Omar Bell on ESPN on 4/22
On Friday April 22nd, 2007 Amateur World Champion and 2008 US Olympian, Demetrius Andrade (12-0, 8KO’s) will look to take another step up the jr. middleweight ranks when he opens up that evening’s ESPN “Friday Night Fights” telecast against arguably his toughest opponent to date, once beaten, Omar Bell (8-1, 5KO’s) at Mohegan Sun, in Uncasville, CT. Headlining the show, which is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, will be an intriguing ten round match-up between exciting jr. welterweights, Bayan “The Mongolian Mongoose” Jargal (15-1-3, 10KO’s) and “Khanqueror” Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19KO’s).
“This will be his (Demetrius) fourth time fighting at Mohegan Sun and already his seventh time fighting on ESPN since turning pro. He’s received great exposure on the national level, and I am also pleased that we have been able to showcase him right at home here for his fans on the east coast,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing and co-promoter of Andrade with Banner Promotions. “Demetrius is moving along well and has a very bright future ahead of him . This will be his third scheduled eight rounder and by the year’s end we expect him to be moving up to ten-rounders and distancing himself from the other top 154 pounders in the world.”
Andrade, who skills, which include lightening fast hand speed, and power in both hands to accompany a stellar defensive game, has had boxing insiders talking about him ever since he turned pro in late 2008. While Andrade has been impressive each and every time out, there have been some in the boxing world that believe Andrade hasn’t been matched tough enough to this point in his career, something that DeGuardia disputes.
“Look at the opponents he has faced thus far in his career. He has beaten three undefeated guys and three more with just one loss on their records. Only two of them have had losing records, and it’s not as though they were 2-64, one guy was 0-1 who Demetrius fought in his second fight, and the other was 11-12. Is it his fault that he beats these guys as easily as he does? People forget that Demetrius is still only 23-years-old. He has a very long and prosperous career ahead of him, and his competition is better than those fed to most other prospects.”
Interestingly, Andrade holds a six round unanimous decision over Chris Chatman, who was 4-0 when he met up with Andrade in October of 2009. Since that loss to Andrade, Chatman has reeled off five wins, including two against unbeaten prospects, Alberto Herrera (7-0) and Lester Gonzalez (11-0). In his last bout, Chatman held highly regarded prospect and 2007 US Amateur Champion, Charles Hatley (14-0, 11KO’s) to an eight round majority draw.
After suffering the lone defeat of his career in 2008 against fellow highly regarded prospect Keith Thurman (15-0, 14KO’s), Bell returned in 2010 and picked up two victories, including a six round shut-out in his last fight against previously undefeated Quinton Willis. Originally from the Island of Jamaica, Bell now calls Georgia home.
First bout is scheduled for 7:30PM. Andrade-Bell is scheduled for eight round sin the jr. middleweight division and will go live on ESPN2 at 8PM ET.
