Eduard Gutknecht will challenge European Light Heavyweight Champion Danny McIntosh in Neubrandenburg, Germany on May 7. In the main fight of the night, IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester will defend his title against mandatory challenger Daniel Geale. “I´m thrilled to be fighting for the European title in just my second fight for Team Sauerland,” Gutknecht said from his training camp base in Zinnowitz. “McIntosh is a strong fighter with a big heart. He won his title on the road, which shows that he can perform well under pressure. But I will defeat him and take the title.”
Gutknecht (20-1, 8 KOs) joined Team Sauerland at the beginning of the year. McIntosh (13-1, 7 KOs) clinched the title on January 22 when he stopped Thierry Karl in France.

WBF To Crown First-Ever Womens Cruiserweight Champion
The World Boxing Federation is about to become part of boxing history when it sanctions the first-ever female world championship bout in the cruiserweight division on May 24 in Györ, Hungary. After thorough consideration, the WBF Championship Committee has approved the application by Profibox Promotion, the promotional outfit headed by Hungarian heavyweight champion Zoltan Petranyi, and pairs local heroine Zita Zatyko and Romania’s Izabella Torok for the WBF womens world cruiserweight crown. The WBF set the weight limit for the division at 86,182 kg (190 lbs), the old male cruiserweight limit.
The 30-year-old Zatyko will certainly start a huge favourite, having defeated Torok twice before in non-title fights. Currently, Zita is rated the # 1 female boxer in the world by boxrec and boosts an unblemished pro record of 11-0-1 (9 KO’s). She has been mentioned as a possible future opponent for WBF womens world heavyweight champ Natascha Ragosina, the undefeated Russian who cleaned out the supermiddleweight class prior to her jump to heavyweight, and if Zatyko can clinch herself the WBF title at cruiser it may move her closer to the big-money match. However, Torok will be the heavier of the two and just might be coming into her own at just 21 years of age. Her current record stands at just 5-3 (2 KO’s), but she has won her last two by knockout.
The WBF Championship Committee invites all female cruiserweight contenders around the world to forward their applications for future challenges for this title to the office of the General Secretary Diana Spasova (diana.spasova@worldboxingfederation.net) for further consideration.
