One of the top featherweights in the world, Tijuana’s Juan Carlos Burgos (26-1, 19 KOs) is eager to get another shot at the 126-pound title after a hard-fought 12 round decision loss in Japan against Hozumi Hasegawa last November. Since then, the 23-year old phenom dropped Frankie Archuleta three times en route to a second round TKO win in February, and he’s determined to deliver the same dominant performance against Sanchez Leon to prove that he’s ready for another championship opportunity.

A 13 year veteran of the fight game, Mexicali’s Gilberto Sanchez Leon (29-10-2, 11 KOs) has faced some of the best in the sport and that pattern will remain intact when he battles Burgos on July 22nd. Winner of four of his last seven bouts, with two first round knockouts, the 30-year old will bring his best as he faces his countryman in All-Mexico turf war.

2008 Colombian Olympian Darley Perez (21-0, 16 KOs) wasted no time tearing through his opposition after the Beijing Games, compiling 21 fights in just two years as a pro. After a 12-0 start in 2009, he added six more wins last year, and in 2011, he has stepped up his game considerably with two of his three victories coming against 23-9 Jose Reyes and 26-13-3 Wilson Alcorro. On July 22nd, he will step up to the plate against a veteran foe once again when he battles Huatabampo, Mexico’s Sergio “Pollero” Rivera (25-7-2, 16 KOs) in an eight round lightweight bout that promises to be a memorable showdown.

La Puente featherweight Abraham “Chamaco” Lopez (14-0, 10 KOs) has always been a popular fighter in the Southern California area, but it was his April 29th win over fellow prospect Aaron Garcia that let people know that he was ready for bigger things in his promising career. Next up for the 23-year old Lopez in an eight round matchup will be hard-hitting Laredo, Texas product Olvin Mejia (4-3-3, 4 KOs).

Also featured on July 22nd will be Londonberry, New Hampshire’s Jhon Ortega (5-0-1, 5 KOs) who has become quite accustomed to performing on the west coast since his debut in 2010. He will meet McAllen, Texas’ John David Charles (7-2, 1 KO) in a six round junior welterweight contest.

In a six round super bantamweight bout, Ontario’s own Jonathan “Lil’ Thund’r” Arellano (8-0-1, 1 KOs) squares off against Brownsville, Texas’ Felipe Cordova (10-2, 4 KOs). And in two bouts pitting fighters from Los Angeles against boxers from Indio, LA’s Danny Roman (2-0-1, 1 KO) takes on Indio’s Diego Madrigal (1-0-1) in a four round bantamweight match, and debuting welterweights Javier Albonica of LA meets Joshua Robertson of Indio in a four rounder.

Bouts subject to change. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the first bell rings at 7:30 pm. The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 North Vineyard Avenue in Ontario. The hotel phone number is 909-937-0900.

McDonnell vs. Hall on September 3rd

BRITISH boxing’s biggest bantamweight fight for years will take place at Doncaster Dome on Saturday 3rd September.

That is when Jamie McDonnell and Stuey Hall will meet in a sensational triple title battler that promises to a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.

McDonnell (17-2-1) who will have hometown advantage is risking his European and Commonwealth crowns, while Darlington’s Hall’s (11-0-1) British title is on the line.

Promoter Frank Maloney said: “I cannot believe how well tickets are going already, but that shouldn’t surprise me.

“Fans want 50-50 fights and I don’t think there are many neutrals that would be confident predicting a winner.

“Stuey has been calling for this fight and Jamie has stepped up the plate by agreeing to it.

“It is too early to say what awaits the winner, but that person would be in the world title shake up.”

Maloney has put together a top class undercard for the show that is being screened lived by Sky Sports when they kick off their new season with this knockout show.

Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries (8-0-1) has his first fight this year having recovered from surgery and is looking at a clash next year against British and Commonwealth champion George Groves next year.

Maloney will also be matching two unbeaten light-welterweight prospects Joe Hughes (3-0) and Chad Gaynor (5-0) against each other.

British super-featherweight champion Gary Sykes (18-1) will box a non-title fight against a selected opponent.

In a West Yorkshire derby former Leeds’s British super-featherweight champion Carl Johanneson (30-5) meets Bradford’s Femi Fehintola (21-2) in a crossroads fight

Tickets are now on sale prices at £35 and £70 (Ringside) from www.frankmaloney.com and 0871 226 1508

Gonzales vs. Sierra on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights

ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra will originate from Phoenix, Ariz. July 8 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN3D, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.com when super middleweight’s Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales (26-1, 14 KOs) and Francisco Sierra (24-3-1, 22 KOs) meet in the 12-round main event. Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside at U.S. Airways Arena describing the action, while studio host Brian Kenny will present all the latest boxing news and highlights. The card is presented by FanBase Promotions.

Friday will be boxing’s fourth telecast on ESPN 3D, with upcoming telecasts July 22 and August 5.

Gonzales, the hometown favorite, has won his last nine fights, including a March 12-round unanimous decision win over Dhafir Smith in his last fight. Gonzalez said of Friday’s fight, “I’ve been getting ready for this fight since the beginning of May. I’ve been training real hard, and I’m really excited for the opportunity.”

Mexico’s Sierra is coming off a May second-round knockout win over Ulises Duarte. Sierra scored one of his career-best wins in July, 2010 – a seventh-round technical decision against previously undefeated Chicago prospect Donovan George. After that fight, ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael wrote, “Sierra landed right-hand bomb after right-hand bomb on George. By the third round, his nose was a bloody mess, and his face was swelling. It’s pretty amazing that George stayed on his feet as long as he did.”

Friday’s card will also feature undefeated junior lightweight Yaundale “Money Shot” Evans (13-0, 9 KOs) pitted against former junior featherweight world title challenger Emmanuel “El Carnicero” Lucero (26-6-1, 14 KOs). Cleveland’s Evans is coming off a fifth round TKO win over Ruslan Berchuk in last fight.

“My coach knows boxing, so I have a good style,” said Evans. “I box a lot. I move around, I use my pivots and my reach. I’m definitely a power puncher. I throw a lot of hard shots. I make my opponent pay.”
