London (18th July 2011) AN apologetic Tyson Fury has called on Dereck Chisora to “grow up” and start acting like a real man ahead of their British and Commonwealth heavyweight title fight on Saturday night (July 23rd) at Wembley Arena.
Chisora was pulled out of Monday’s press conference by promoter Frank Warren because of the harsh comments Tyson made in the middle of a heated media call last week but challenger Tyson just sees that as a lame excuse.
“Chisora can’t speak for himself, he’s like a puppet – he needs a puppet master to do the talking for him because he hasn’t got the brains to talk for himself. They pulled out of our press conference because of what I said last week and yet James DeGale gave George Groves a relentless amount of abuse leading up to their fight and Groves never missed a press conference,” says Fury.
“It all sounds a bit hypocritical to me. Of course I apologize for saying that I would kill him, no fighter wants that to happen and you know that I have a strong faith in God but it was just in the heat of the moment. Ali said things to Joe Frazier he regretted and Mike Tyson said countless things, it happens when you have a real fight on your hands and I won’t apologize for the beating I’m going to give him, we’re in the hurt business – as Ricky Hatton said it’s not a tickling contest.
“But you know I don’t have a record of biting people or kissing them at the weigh-ins – the British Boxing Board of Control have not suspended me. So let’s cut out the excuses – don’t be a muppet Del Boy. Come out, come out wherever you are!
“It seems to me that the people around him know that Chisora was able to bully other opponents but he can’t do that with me and they know that his reign as champion is coming to an end, they know that his world title chance is out the window on Saturday night.
“It’s going to be a great night for British boxing, Amir Khan will beat Zab Judah and before that the public can tune in live on Channel 5 at 10pm to see the future of heavyweight boxing because that’s what I am.”
Paul McCloskey to announce his September 10th opponent tomorrow
Paul McCloskey will fight at the Odyssey Arena live on Sky Sports on September 10 in a World Boxing Association (WBA) eliminator, with promoter Eddie Hearn is promising to announce an exciting opponent at tomorrow’s press conference (July 19).
The Dungiven fighter is aiming to get back on the trail of a World title shot after his fight with Amir Khan in April ended in controversial circumstances, as chaos ensued in the ring after a cut above McCloskey’s left eye was deemed severe enough to stop the fight.
Back on home turf and with a world class opponent in the opposite corner, Hearn believes McCloskey will put the Khan fight behind him and prove he is ready to challenge for a major belt once more.
“Paul is keen to put the Khan fight in the past and move on,” said Hearn. “We cannot change what happened on the night but Paul is in control of his future, and a victory on September 10 in front of a packed crowd in Belfast against this perfect opponent will put him back on top of the pile for a World title shot.”
Ticket details for the September 10 fight at the Odyssey Arena will also be released tomorrow, while a top class undercard to be announced soon.
Jo Jo Dan To Fight Trumpet For UBO Title
Canada-based Romanian top-contender Ionut Dan Ion, AKA Jo Jo Dan, will fight Floyd Trumpet for the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ Inter-Continental Welterweight title on July 29 at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.
This has been confirmed by Floyd Trumpet Fight Productions, and Gancor Promotions on behalf of Dan, after Emilio Julio Julio from Columbia pulled out of the fight. The show, which also featured two female world title bouts, will be promoted in cooperation with Unified Boxing Promotions.
A pro since 2004, Dan has compiled an impressive 28-1 (15) record. His sole defeat came to fellow undefeated contender Selcuk Aydin last year, when Dan travelled to Turkey and dropped a controversial split decision. Since then he has scored decisive victories in Canada over Argentinean Andres Pablo Villafane and former world champion Steve Forbes.
Other impressive victories on Dan’s ledger includes former world champion Raul Balbi and contenders Paul Delgado, Christopher Henry, Jorge Daniel Miranda and Walter Acosta. He held NABA and WBC Continental Americas titles at Light Welterweight before moving up to 147 Lbs. to fight Aydin for the WBC Silver championship.
Besides the UBO title, Jo Jo Dan vs. Floyd Trumpet will also be for the vacant WBC Carribbean Boxing Federation Welterweight title, and will be contested over ten rounds.
Trumpet, 16-8-2 (9), was first scheduled to fight Iwan Azore in March for the UBO title, but when the fight was postponed the opponent was changed to Columbian Emilio Julio Julio. With Julio out and Jo Jo Dan in, Trumpet is looking at an even bigger challenge against a man who has operated at world class level for years and only lost once.
