Promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing wishes to congratulate Poland’s World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (46-2-1, 36 KOs) for his 11th round TKO victory over former world champion Danny Green at Challenge Stadium, in Perth, Australia, last Wednesday night.
Green got out to an early lead and had been leading all judges’ scorecards (97-93, 97-93 and 96-93) before Wlodarczyk found the range with his hard punches. In the 11th round Wlodarczyk knocked Green down hard and referee Michael Griffin wisely stopped the fight at 2:15.
“It was a fantastic win for a great champion,” said Margules of his long-time fighter’s potentially career-defining victory. “It takes a lot of heart to come from behind and win in sensational fashion like that – especially in the other guy’s hometown.”
Future career opportunities for Wlodarczyk are many, including the possibility of a high-profile battle against fellow Green conqueror and former world champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver.
“Right now Krzysztof is on a well-deserved vacation and we’ll be sitting down to figure out the next move when he returns. He definitely got everyone’s attention with the dramatic way he won that fight. He’s got a lot of options in front of him now and we’ll figure out the best one for him then.”
Guerrero-Kliewer on Khan vs. Peterson undercard on Saturday
WASHINGTON, DC (December 7) – “Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson” fight week is in full swing and big-time boxing’s return to the District just got bigger as Golden Boy Promotions and Khan Promotions present an undercard jam-packed with compelling matchups in the lead-up to the WBA and International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Lightweight World Title fight between champion Amir “King” Khan and challenger Lamont Peterson this Saturday, December 10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
Hometown favorite and lightweight contender Anthony Peterson, popular local standout Fernando Guerrero and unbeaten Irish prospect Jamie “The Nuisance” Kavanagh are ready for action as they prepare to show DC what they are made of on Saturday night.
The brother of main event challenger Lamont Peterson, lightweight Anthony Peterson (30-1, 20 KO’s) is forging his own path to a world title, and his bout on December 10 is a step in the right direction. A former NABF and NABO champion whose only pro loss came via disqualification to Brandon Rios in his last fight in September of 2010, the 26-year old Washington, DC native’s long-awaited return to the ring will come in his backyard against the always tough 34-year-old Ghana native Daniel Attah (26-8-1, 9 KO’s). Attah, a rugged warrior who has faced the best the game has to offer including former World Champions Acelino Freitas and Nate Campbell as well as current World Champion Antonio DeMarco, is always ready for battle and will look to spoil Peterson’s ring return on Saturday night.
Hailing from nearby Salisbury, Maryland, 25-year old Fernando Guerrero (21-1, 16 KO’s) is one of the east coast’s most popular fighters and for good reason considering his charisma outside of the ring and his action-packed style inside of it. Looking to bounce back from the lone loss of his pro career to Grady Brewer in June, Guerrero squares off with Minnesota’s Robert Kliewer (11-13-2, 5 KO’s) in an eight-round middleweight bout.
Unbeaten in eight pro fights, Ireland’s Jamie “The Nuisance” Kavanagh (8-0, 3 KO’s) has had a busy 2011, winning all four of his bouts this year without losing a round. Now fighting out of Hollywood, Calif., the 21-year-old Freddie Roach trained lightweight will take on San Juan, Puerto Rico’s Ramesis Gil (6-3-4, 5 KO’s) in a six-round contest.
Plus, Washington, DC fighters will take the stage on the biggest night of their pro careers to date when Fort Washington, Maryland light heavyweight Thomas Williams (5-0, 3 KO’s) faces Reynaldo Rodriguez (6-2-1, 3 KO’s) of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, welterweights Dusty Harrison (2-0) and Terrell Davis (0-4) face-off in an all-DC match-up, White Plains, Maryland lightweight Joshua Davis (1-0, 1 KO) takes on Chris Russell (2-7-1, 1 KO) of Shattuck, Oklahoma in a lightweight battle and White Plains lightweight Terron Grant (1-0) faces North Carolina’s Dashawn Autry (0-1). Each of these exciting bouts featuring hometown up-and-comers are scheduled for four rounds and are sure to start “Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson” off right.

VICTOR ORTIZ VS. LAMONT PETERSON
LOS ANGELES, December 7 – On Friday, December 9, the night before boxing fans witness a showdown for super lightweight supremacy at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, the Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir “King” Khan and number one rated super lightweight contender Lamont “Havoc” Peterson will be featured in separate “Sólo Boxeo Tecate Classics” fights on Telefutura.
In the “Classics” main event, fans will take a look back at fight night in New York City in May of 2010 when Khan defended his WBA Super Lightweight World Title against hometown favorite Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi, and in the co-featured fight, Peterson’s compelling battle with “Vicious” Victor Ortiz from December 2010 in Las Vegas will be showcased.
The special presentation of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate,” presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T, will air on TeleFutura at 12:30am ET/PT (11:30pm CT).
Already a star in his native England, Bolton’s Amir “King” Khan began his quest for world domination on May 15, 2010, when he made his United States debut against flashy former World Champion Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi in the Theater of the world-famous Madison Square Garden. While Malignaggi was game, Khan was too fast and powerful for the Brooklynite, as he pounded out an eleventh round technical knockout win, making a statement to the world that “King” Khan was here to stay.
Two bouts removed from the lone loss of his professional career to Super Lightweight World Champion Timothy Bradley, Lamont “Havoc” Peterson entered the ring at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on December 11, 2010 determined to get back to the top when he took on “Vicious” Victor Ortiz. Peterson recovered from early two knockdowns and used his stellar boxing skills and his ability to stay calm under pressure to battle to a ten round draw with the future World Champion.
The stage is set for “Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson” taking place this Saturday, December 10, 2011 live from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC and televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing. Before the action heats up in the ring on Saturday night, tune in to TeleFutura on Friday night to take a look back at two memorable fights that have led Khan and Peterson to their “Capital Showdown.”
