Mayweather showing too much desperation to get Pacquiao fight

By Michael Collins: Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed how badly he wants the fight with Manny Pacquiao by calling him on the phone to try and get a fight without Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum getting in the way. According to abs-cbnnews.com, Pacquiao agreed as long as he’s given a 50-50 deal. But it’s doubtful that we’ll see Mayweather-Pacquiao on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather is really starting to show too much desperation in getting this fight and the fact that he’s the one doing all the work and still getting anywhere, it shows that Pacquiao and his promoter don’t want the fight. When you’re the only one working at something, it’s time to cut your losses and get with whatever’s left of your dignity.

I think it’s time for Mayweather to bail on this whole Pacquiao thing and let Arum get his way so that he can match Pacquiao with whichever fodder opponent that he has in mind. Arum is just trying to keep Pacquiao moving forward and a fight against Mayweather isn’t in Arum’s plans now. He’d rather put the Filipino star in with one of his four hand-picked options – Cotto, Timothy Bradley, Lamont Peterson and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mayweather needs to realize that all the excuses that are being made by Arum are likely code for him not wanting to see Mayweather make a mess of his big money maker. Pacquiao isn’t exactly resisting Arum’s efforts in not making the Mayweather fight, so that should tell Mayweather he needs to know about these guys. He needs to cross Pacquiao off of his list and go fight someone that’s actually interested I fighting him on May 5th.

If I were him, I wouldn’t even mention a fight with Pacquiao in November because it likely be more excuses that will frustrate and annoy Mayweather. When you got a fighter that wants no part of fighting you, you got to ignore them and move on with your career.
