Rudy Markussen (37-2, 24 KOs) is convinced he has the power to beat WBA Super-Middleweight World Champion (Interim) Brian Magee (35-4, 24 KOs) at the first Nordic Fight Night in Copenhagen on Saturday night..
The Hardhitter is looking to complete a spectacular comeback after a long break from boxing between 2006 and 2010. “This is my last chance and I will make the most of it,” the 34-year-old said at today´s final press conference at Broendby Hall. “My comeback has gone very well thus far. I have a lot of confidence. I am ready and I am in great shape. I know I have the power to beat him on Saturday night.”
Magee said he was looking for another victory on Danish soil. “I have great memories of Denmark,” he stated. “I have won here many times as an amateur and also defeated Mads Larsen. I cannot afford any slip-ups. I am prepared to face Markussen. I am in top shape, the best ever, and I am here to defend my title.”
Promoter Nisse Sauerland expects a great night of boxing action. “The first Nordic Fight Night will be a special one,” he stated. “Magee versus Markussen will be very exciting. Rudy is in great shape and ready to become world champion!”
In the co-featured main event, rising star Patrick Nielsen (12-0, 6 KOs) takes on Jozsef “Shatter-Machine” Matolcsi (30-17, 20 KOs). Karsten Rower, who is coaching the Nielsen brothers in Germany, is pleased with the 20-year-old´s progress. “He keeps getting better and better,” Rower stated. “Patrick got a lot of talent and we will continue to lead him to the top. Saturday comes the next challenge. He is well prepared.” Said Nielsen: “Let´s bring it on. I want the next victory.”
Tickets for the first Nordic Fight Night are available at billetnet.dk. The TV3+ broadcast starts at 20h on Saturday night.
Magee: I am faster and better than Markussen
WBA Super-Middleweight World Champion (Interim) Brian Magee believes he is in the shape of his life. The 36-year-old Belfast fighter held a media work-out at fitness.dk in Osterbro today. “I am in the best shape ever,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for Rudy Markussen but I believe I have more speed and skills than he has. I´ve seen a couple of his fights and I think he has good power but I have as much power. I am prepared for a tough fight and I will defend my title.”
Magee does not rate Markussen as the hardest-hitting fighter at super-middleweight. “I have fought against Carl Froch and I don’t think Markussen hits as hard as him but it´s always tough to compare,” he stated.
In the co-featured main event, Patrick Nielsen will take on Jozsef “Shatter-Machine” Matolcsi. “He calls himself the Shatter-Machine but it will be him who ends up shattered,” Nielsen said. “I look forward to fighting in front of my home fans and I will put on a great show.”
Tomorrow, Magee and Markussen meet face-to-face for the first time at the official press conference, which begins at noon at Broendby Hall.
Tickets for the first Nordic Fight Night are available at www.billetnet.dk. The TV3+ broadcast starts at 20h.
Brian Magee vs. Rudy Markussen on Saturday night
World Boxing Association (WBA) Super-Middleweight World Champion (Interim) Brian Magee (35-4, 24 KOs) has arrived in Denmark. Four days ahead of his clash with Rudy Markussen (37-2, 24 KOs) at Broendby Hall, the Northern Irish veteran landed at Copenhagen airport on Tuesday night. “It´s good to be back in Denmark,” he said. “I have great memories and I have won a lot of fights here. On Saturday, I will defeat Rudy Markussen and defend my title. He has a lot of power but I also have a lot of power. I have as many knockouts as he has. It will be a great fight.”
Earlier today, Markussen conducted a media work-out in downtown Copenhagen. “I am hungry and I am ready,” the Hardhitter stated. “This is the chance I have been waiting for. The big day has finally arrived. I am in very good shape. I don´t think Magee really knows how hard I can punch. Once he finds out, it will be too late for him. His title will stay in Denmark.”
Magee will hold his public work-out on Wednesday at 14h followed by Patrick and Micki Nielsen. Tickets for the first Nordic Fight Night are available at billetnet.dk. The TV3+ broadcast starts at 20h on Saturday night.
