Writer Bobby Cassidy Special Guest Speaker At Tuesday’s Ring 8 Meeting

Veteran boxing writer Bobby Cassidy will be the special guest speaker for Ring 8’s monthly meeting this Tuesday evening (Feb. 21 @ 7 PM/ET at the historic Waterfront Crabhouse in Long Island City. Cassidy is a well-known reporter for Newsday, as well as a playwright for the popular off-Broadway play, Kid Shamrock, he wrote about his father, Bobby Cassidy Sr., who also acts in the play. The boxing-themed play also starred 1984 Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion Mark Breland, John Duddy, Seamus McDonough, the late Wayne Kelly, Tommy Rainone, and Mark McPherson. Former World Boxing Organization heavyweight champion Michael Bent was the director.

“Bobby Cassidy is a great guy who many of our members have known and been friends with for many years,” Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said. “He’ll speak about boxing from his view as a reporter and, of course, Kid Shamrock. Actor-boxers Mark Breland and Tommy Rainone, as well as executive producer David Schuster, will be at the meeting, too.”

Formed in 1954 by an ex-prizefighter, Jack Grebelsky, Ring 8 became the eighth subsidiary of what was then known as the National Veteran Boxers Association – hence, RING 8 – and today the organization’s motto still remains: Boxers Helping Boxers.

RING 8 is fully committed to supporting less fortunate people in the boxing community who may require assistance in terms of paying rent, medical expenses, or whatever justifiable need.
