Team Sauerland is delighted to confirm that Patrick Nielsen will be fighting for the vacant WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Title when the Nordic Fight Night hits Frederikshavn on March 17. The 20-year-old Danish Boxer of the Year, who scored a spectacular flash KO against Jozsef Matolcsi at Broendby Hall, will face Gaston Alejandro Vega (17-4, 6 KOs) from Argentina at Arena Nord. “This will be the toughest fight of Patrick´s promising career,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said at a press conference in Frederikshavn.
“But everybody who has seen him in action knows why we have the utmost of confidence in him. Winning the Intercontinental Title at such an early age would be massive. We have no doubts that Patrick is ready for the big stage.”
After winning the IBF Youth World Title in Herning last December, Nielsen is eager to add the first senior belt to his collection. “I am ready for the big fights,” he said. “This is a great opportunity. I guess I will need more than 11 seconds to beat Vega but I can promise my fans I will do whatever it takes to bring the belt to Denmark. It is going to be a great fight.”
Also in action will be Reda Zam Zam (24-1, 11 KOs), who just celebrated a spectacular comeback two months ago in Herning. The 31-year-old light middleweight can´t wait to be back in the ring. “It was a great feeling to be boxing again,” he said. “I showed that I still have the skills and the power to be very successful and I will take the next step back to the top with a victory in Frederikshavn on March 17.”
Former Danish amateur star Torben Keller (2-0), who clinched the second win in as many fights at the first Nordic Fight Night, will also be fighting. “I am thrilled to be boxing in Frederikshavn,” he said. “Before moving to Berlin to train at the Sauerland gym, I lived in Aalborg for a long time. I am glad to come back and show my home fans what I have learned in Germany.”
Sweden´s Erik Skoglund (8-0, 4 KOs) will also showcase his talents, while Micki Nielsen (3-0, 3 KOs) had to pull out of his scheduled bout due to a hand injury sustained in Saturday´s clash.
The co-featured main event will be the biggest fight in women´s boxing, with WBA / WBC / WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (19-0, 5 KOs) defending her titles against Anne Sophie Mathis (26-1, 22 KOs). The French power-hitter lived up to her billing as the “Female Tyson” last December when she knocked out former pound-for-pound queen Holly Holm in America. She will be looking to clinch another spectacular road victory at the Arena Nord, which will be cheering for Braekhus. Hailing from Bergen, the “First Lady” will be counting on the ferocious home support of her fans, with up to 1,000 Norwegians expected to make the short trip to Frederikshavn.
“This is going to be a fantastic event for our region,” Per Malmberg, Administrative Director of Arena Nord, said. “There has never been a professional boxing event of this magnitude over here so we are already very excited. A little while ago we finished our strategic concept and it was our plan to bring more sports, conference and music events to the region. Coincidentally, Nisse Sauerland called me a little later and here we are presenting the second Nordic Fight Night. I am sure the fans will be excited to see the very best of Danish boxing along with a spectacular female fight.”

JONATHAN OQUENDO WILL NOT FIGHT NEXT MARCH 10 IN JUANMA LOPEZ VS ORLANDO SALIDO 2 AT THE ROBERTO CLEMENTE COLISEUM
Due to an ATV accident, World Boxing Organization (WBO) superbantamweight #1 ranked Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo, suffered some injuries and will not fight on March 10, in the “López vs Salido 2, The Rematch” show, to be held at the Roberto Clemente coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in a Top Rank presentation, in association with PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP), Promociones Zanfer and the City of San Juan to be televised on Showtime.
Oquendo (22-0, 15 KOs) was supposed to face Jose “Miau” Nieves for the 122lbs WBO Latino title, but in the accident he injured the right elbow (with inflammation) and suffered minor injuries on the head. His girlfriend is seriously injured at hospital.
“Definitely, Jonathan will not fight next March 10. We are going to watch for his recovery en route for his next opportunities”, Peter Rivera, PRBBP Vice-President said.
MCWILLIAMS ARROYO IN ACTION ON LÓPEZ VS SALIDO 2
While, former olympian and amateur world champion McWilliams Arroyo will take Oquendo’s place in the March 10 card.
Arroyo (10-1, 9 KOs) beat Mexican Gilberto Mendoza last February 2 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico by a fourth round TKO. Arroyo will fight in a flyweight and 8 round bout.
The “López vs Salido 2, The Rematch” will be healine by Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez (31-1, 28 KOs) against WBO Featherweight Champion Orlando “Siri” Salido (37-11-2, 25 KOs) in a rematch. The co-feature bout will face featherweight contender Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (27-0, 23 KOs) versus Bernabé Concepción (34-4-1, 17 KOs).
Also in action, unbeaten Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (18-0, 13 KOs) will defend his WBO Latino lightweight belt.
