Lee Selby back in action on May 25th

Welsh star Lee Selby will return home for the first time in nearly a year on Friday 25th May to defend his British and Commonwealth Featherweight titles at the Newport Sports Centre.

The 25-year-old from Barry headlines an action packed card featuring Wales’ best young talent, televised live and exclusive on the New Home of Boxing BoxNation (Sky Ch. 456/Virgin Ch. 546).

Selby won the titles in one of the biggest upsets of last year when he inflicted the first defeat to previously unbeaten Stephen Smith in Liverpool to take his titles with an eighth round stoppage.

He then successfully defended both titles last December at London’s York Hall against tough Scotsman John Simpson, stopping him in the fifth round.

A challenger for Selby will be announced shortly, but for now he is looking forward to fighting in front of a home crowd again.

“It’s great to be back in Wales and fighting in front of my fans again. I’ve had two great wins on the road in England against Smith and then against Simpson so it’s fantastic that my fans will see me make the second defence of my titles,” Said Selby.

“Winning the British and Commonwealth belts and in the way that I won them against Smith when I wasn’t given a chance was a dream come true for me. I’m keeping hold of these belts for as long, there is no way I’m letting them go,”

He added, “Boxing in Wales is in great shape at the moment with Nathan being world champion, plus Enzo winning the British title and also Kerry Hope capturing the European title, we’ve also got amazing talent coming through like Craig Evans, Lewis Rees, Liam Williams and Francis Robinson who are all on the undercard.”

Swansea super-middleweight Tobias Webb – nephew of new British Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Maccarinelli – goes in over eight-rounds as chief support on the undercard.

Red-hot unbeaten talents Craig Evans, Lewis Rees, Liam Williams and Francis Robinson are all action as they continue to build their careers.

Blackwood super-featherweight Evans and Tonypandy light-welter Rees both feature in six-round contests, while Ely light-welter Robinson – son of former WBO World Featherweight Champion Steve – and Clydach Vales’ Williams each feature in four-rounders.

Tickets priced at £30, £40, £50 and £75 are available from the Frank Warren Promotions Box Office on 01992 550 888 or online at www.frankwarren.tv
