Thunderous punching Australian Heavyweight prospect Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne is looking forward to the next chapter in his exciting career. Standing an imposing 6’4” and weighing around 118kg or 260lbs, Browne will make his international debut by fighting in Oldham, England on April 21st on a Hatton Promotions card.
His opponent will be Paul Butlin, who has twice lasted the distance with Dereck Chisora and has faced a long line of Heavyweight prospects including Albert Sosnowski, Johnathon Banks, Edmund Gerber and Johann Duhaupas.
Browne, who is the Australian Heavyweight champion and owns an impressive 11-0 (10 KO) record, came to the attention of Hatton Promotions after blasting out Colin Wilson in impressive fashion back in February.
“That fight for the Australian title really made people sit up and take notice,” he said. “I feel like I’ve only just begun to realise my potential and I’m improving all the time. The best is definitely yet to come”.
Browne, who is managed by Brendan Bourke and Matt Clark, was formerly a Mixed Martial Artist, before switching to Boxing fulltime in 2010. He is trained by Grady Stewart at Combat Sports, Perth, and will face Butlin, 12-16 (3 KO) over a scheduled 6 rounds.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Lucas to continue his development as a boxer,” Clark stated. “I’ve been lucky enough to put together a couple of Commonwealth Title fights on Hatton Promotions cards in the past and after Lucas won the Aussie title in such dominant fashion, they got in touch and said they’d be interested in having him box in England. If Lucas puts in an impressive performance, who knows where it could lead”.
“I’ve left no stone unturned in my preparation for this fight,” Browne continued. “I have been sparring with Pieter Cronje, Mark De Mori and Grant Horwood. I realise that this next fight is easily the biggest of my career and I intend to make a statement. I’m hoping that any Aussie fight fans in northern England will make the trip to the Oldham Sports Centre and come and support me. Of course, I intend on winning over some new fans while I’m there too. I think the English fans will enjoy my style”.
The main event of the evening will feature Anthony Crolla defending his British Lightweight title against Derry Matthews.
