By Michael Collins: In response to the comments that unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury (17-0, 12 KO’s) made to the Daily Star where Fury said he had gained and lost 70 pounds of fat recently by overeating, his opponent for next Saturday Martin Rogan (14-2, 7 KO’s) said Fury is still overweight and said he’s going to knock him out when they meet for the vacant Irish heavyweight title at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.
Rogan said this to Livefight.com “He [Fury] is full of s***! He is a balloon and that is nonsense. He is still out of shape and I am going to take him apart. They should of called you by your right name, ‘Butterbean Luke.’ Tyson Fury is a fake and I’m going to smash him up for all of the people [in Belfast].”
This is hilarious. Fury already looked to be at least 20 pounds overweight for his last fight, and it’s hard to imagine him gaining an additional 70 pounds on top of that. He says he lost 70 pounds, but I bet he’s probably still carrying around some excessive baggage around the middle that Rogan will take advantage of on Saturday by working him to the body. Fury hasn’t been hit much with body shots since he turned pro. I wonder what Rogan will be able to do when he starts going after that soft middle.
Fury is keen on going after the Irish heavyweight title because he feels he identifies with his Irish roots, even though he’s lived in England his entire life. He wants the Irish belt and sees it as his Olympics. He even said it’s important to him than facing the Klitschko brothers. We shall see how he does against a really hitter in Rogan. He may be up there a little bit in age, but Rogan is one of those heavyweights that is 40 in age but more like a fighter in his 30s. Rogan’s power is still completely intact and Fury is going to be getting hit hard on Saturday.
