Australian Heavyweight prospect Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne departed his home city of Perth, Western Australia today for a three week training camp in England. Browne, 12-0 (11 KO), will spend the first week in Manchester preparing with the legendary former Junior Welterweight and Welterweight world champion Ricky “Hitman” Hatton and renowned trainer Mike Jackson, before transferring his base to Sheffield to spar with European title challenger Richard Towers, 13-0 (10 KO).
Browne will then feature on the Rendall Munroe vs Scott Quigg world title card in Manchester on June 16th against a yet to be determined opponent. The card will be televised by Sky Sports in the United Kingdom. Towers will face unbeaten German, Michael Wallisch for the EBU title on the same promotion. Towers is promoted by Hatton Promotions and is trained by the esteemed Brendan Ingle, who has cornered the likes of Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Herol Graham and Ryan Rhodes in the past.
Browne is coming off a four round demolition of the usually durable Paul Butlin on April 21st in Oldham, England. Browne dropped Butlin a total of four times in a performance his co-manager, Matt Clark, described as “clinical”. “Everything went to plan back in April and it was a pleasure to link up with such a professional outfit as Hatton Promotions,” he said. “Lucas fought in a calm, measured style and he took care of business, exactly as he needed to. Hatton Promotions have been kind enough to invite Lucas over again and I’m certain it’s a move that will continue his improvement as a boxer”.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Manchester and getting back to work with Ricky, Mike and the guys,” Browne continued. “I felt right at home last time and we were made to feel extremely welcome. My game can only improve sparring and preparing with the likes of Richard Towers and I hope to get him in great shape for his European title challenge,” he stated. “I’m notr sure who I’m facing yet on July 16th, but I know I’m going to be in tremendous shape and I’m looking to build on my last few performances. The atmosphere fighting in front of the English crowds is fantastic! I was warmly welcomed there and I hope they get behind me again”.
