More realistically for Harrison, is the possibility of a fight against one of Britain’s up-and-coming heavyweight hopes; David Price and Tyson Fury especially. Though neither unbeaten fighter is in any way rushing to test themselves against Harrison, “A-Force” says both guys need him if they are to attract the big, crossover T.V audience.
Harrison, who faces fellow former “Prizefighter” Ali Adams, 13-3-1(5) on Saturday night (Harrison actually won “Prizefighter,” back in 2009; Adams lost his opening fight, to Matt Skelton, in 2010), says he wants a fight with Fury or Price next..
“I don’t need to [sell the fight to Price]. I’m an Olympic gold medallist, David Price is an Olympic bronze medallist,” Harrison said as quoted by ESPN.co.uk. “Against Ali Adams, people want to see what I’ve got left. That’s why it’s not on T.V. It’s like my punishment for the Haye fight. If I win this fight, there’s gonna be opportunities to go back to where I’m supposed to be.”
Just where Harrison, 27-5(20) thinks he is supposed to be is anyone’s guess. However, a fight between he and Fury and/or Price would likely attract some interest; even if neither fight would generate the numbers Harrison thinks they would.
“They [Price and Fury] need to sell,” he continued. “I’ve just come off ‘Strictly Come Dancing,’ the highest-rated show on T.V, so you’re going to get three or four million watching the fight. They want to make money, and they want people to start watching their fights.”
Fury would no doubt say that fans are already watching his fights: his bouts on terrestrial channel, Channel 5 pulling in great numbers. As for Price, he enjoys good exposure on SKY Sports. Bottom line: does anyone (the Ali Adamss of the world aside, and no disrespect) really need Harrison today?
Talented, gifted even, Harrison has allowed the boat to sail on his own career. It’s a shame, but no-one is to blame but Audley himself. What would a Price or a Fury gain from KO’ing him here in 2012? Actually, 30-year-old Adams, trained by Dereck Chisora’s main man Don Charles, might just hammer the final nail in Harrison’s once-promising career himself.
