ROCKY FIELDING JOINS MATCHROOM SPORT
Rocky Fielding joins Matchroom Sport
Prizefighter champ boxing on Kell Brook show in July
Rocky Fielding has signed promotional terms with Matchroom Sport and Eddie Hearn.
The Prizefighter Super Middleweight II champion will fight for new promoter Hearn on July 7 as part of the exciting undercard of Kell Brook’s IBF welterweight clash with Carson Jones at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield.
Fielding burst onto the scene when he clinched the Prizefighter title in March 2011 in his hometown of Liverpool, stopping all three opponents to lift the trophy, turning from 3-0 novice to Merseyside hero live on Sky Sports.
‘Rocky from Stocky’ has fought just four times since his dream night at the Liverpool Olympia, with just one fight in 2012, and the 24 year old, who has a massive fan base in the boxing crazy city of Liverpool, expressed his delight at joining Hearn’s growing and busy stable.
“I’m really excited about the future now I’ve signed with Eddie and Matchroom Sport,” said Fielding. “I won Prizefighter live on Sky Sports and that was a dream night for me, so to be back on Sky is fantastic.
“Eddie is putting on big shows all over Britain and they are all really great bills. I want to be fighting in huge shows in Liverpool and I know that’s the plan Eddie has in mind for me, so I need to hit the ground running in Sheffield with a big performance.”
Fielding joins Team GB stars Kal Yafai and Martin Ward as Hearn’s recent signings, and the promoter has told the Liverpool man where he wants him to be in a 12 months’ time.
“I was there when Rocky became the first fighter to stop all three men to win the tournament and it was clear for everyone then how much talent he has,” said Hearn. “We share the same vision that it’s time for him to step up and we’ve set ourselves a 12 month target to be fighting for the British title. One fight in seven months is good for no-one, so the key is activity and that starts in Sheffield in July before we get him out and in his first title fight in September. We have big plans for Liverpool in the new season and Rocky will be a big part of those.”
Tickets for Kell Brook vs. Carson Jones featuring Rocky Fielding’s 11th pro fight, European title rematches between Gavin Rees and Derry Mathews and Kerry Hope and Greg Proksa and Kal Yafai’s debut are on sale now priced £30, £40, £60, and £100 from the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield box office on 0114 256 5656 and at www.motorpointarenasheffield.com.
VIP packages will be sold exclusively by Matchroom Sport priced £150 on 01277 359900 or at www.matchroomboxing.com. The package includes inner ringside seating (front seven rows), pre-fight party from 5.30pm-8pm with complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks and canapés.
