By Joseph Herron: After having a tumultuous 2011, young American Junior Welterweight Mike Dallas Jr. (18-2-1, 7 KOs) is ready to reach his true potential in the sport of boxing.
On June 22nd, at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA, the 25 year old amateur stand-out will face big punching Javier Castro of Chihuahua, Mexico, on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights”.
“I know Castro is a very strong fighter,” states Mike Dallas Jr. “I plan to show my skills in front of a nationally televised audience once again and outbox Javier every minute of every round.”
On February 17th, the slick pugilist displayed his abilities on the popular ESPN series by pitching a virtual shut-out against Miguel Gonzalez in Arlington, TX. Under the tutelage of heralded trainer Virgil Hunter, the 140 pound prospect claims that he is ready to shine under the bright lights of “FNF” once again.
“I had a very tough 2011, but I’m improving with every fight working with Virgil Hunter. I felt I defeated Mauricio Herrera last year, and I deserve to be fighting opposite guys like Brandon Rios and other top fighters in the Junior Welterweight division.”
On June 24th of last year, Mike was on the short end of a very questionable majority decision loss to Mauricio Herrera in front of a nationally televised audience. In light of what transpired this past weekend in Las Vegas, NV, “The Silent Assassin” feels that a definitive victory is dependent upon an impressive performance with very little margin of error.
“Against a strong fighter like Javier Castro, who has won his last three wins by knock-out, I can’t leave any doubt in the minds of the judges. I have to fight all three minutes of every round as hard as I possibly can. This fight is extremely important to me.”
In the scheduled ten round main event against the Mexican born fighter, Mike will be competing for the interim WBO Latino Junior Welterweight title. Although a minor title contest, the young California native believes this to be a critical bout which could lead to much bigger fights against the top 140 pounders of the world.
“The ultimate goal is to fight for and win a major world title. I feel like I’m only a few fights away from competing for a major world title, and I believe that I have the skill to challenge any of the top Junior Welterweights in the division.”
The hungry young fighter is supremely confident and assures his die-hard fans that the first step towards a major world title will be a successful and inspired showing against a very tough fighter on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” next week.
