SCOTT QUIGG and Rendall Munroe were both ready for battle after weighing in for tomorrow (Saturday) night’s vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) interim world super-bantamweight title at Manchester Velodrome.
Quigg was slightly heavier at 8st 9lb 12oz (121lb 12oz) while magnificently sculptured Munroe weighed 8st 9lb 10oz (121lb 10oz).
As they posed for picture Munroe unleashed a verbal barrage at Quigg who laughed off the pre-fight taunts.
Unbeaten Quigg is the bookies favourite and the Bury star said: “I am the one who has it all to prove, but I am one million per-cent confident I can beat Rendall.
“He’s going to pressure me, but I have got a good defence and I haven’t dedicated myself to boxing since I was a kid to fail now.
“Beat Rendall and I am up there among the very best in the division and looking at even bigger fights.”
Former European champion and world champion Munroe knows it will be a long climb back to world level it he loses against the British title holder.
He said: “Since I gave up work last year I have had a lot more time to work on things like strength and conditioning and I am sure I will reap the rewards against Scott.
“He is a good kid, but I have been at elite level for a long time and I don’t think he is ready to step up just yet.”
Sheffield’s Ryan Rhodes against Ricky Hatton trained Belarussian Sergey Rabchenko both weighed 10st 13lb 7oz (153lb 7oz) ahead of their vacant European light-middleweight title clash.
Rhodes’ fellow steel city fighter Richard Towers tipped the scales at 16st 12lb (236lb) for his vacant EU heavyweight title clash against Gregory Tony. Frenchman Tony weighed 16st 13lb (237lb)
British middleweight champion Martin Murray and French title holder Karim Achour both weighed bang on the middleweight limit of 11st 6lb (160lb) ahead of their non-title ten rounder
Other fights on the bill: Craig Watson v Tomasz Mazurciewicz, Lucas Browne v Hastings Rasani, Adam Etches v Ferenc Zold, Scott Jenkins v Kristian Laight, Adam Little v Dee Mitchell, Kallum De’Ath v Anwar Alfadi and Louis Norman v Delroy Spencer.

SUMMER OF ACTION ON BOXNATION: Chavez-Lee, Abraham-Stieglitz, Haye-Chisora, More!

The following week the amateurs are in action at the Alexandra Palace with the Haringay Box Cup which is Europe’s largest senior open boxing tournament hosted by the Haringay Police Police & Community Boxing club. Top male and female amateur boxers from novice to international level from the UK, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland and Ireland will compete.
On Friday 29th June, LIVE from the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Celtic Super-Featherweight Champion Paul Appleby defends his title against three-time British champion John Simpson. Appleby headlined BoxNation’s first ever live televised show last September in a small hall classic against Liam Walsh and won the Celtic title in a tough battle against Stephen Ormond in March. Plus Stephen Ormond and Mickey Coveney fight it out over ten rounds with prospects Darryll Williams, Tom Baker, Charlie Hoy, Mitchell Smith and Joey Taylor on the undercard.
Then it’s the big one LIVE from West Ham United Football Club, London, on Saturday 14th July with heavyweight grudge rivals David Haye and Dereck Chisora in the biggest all-British showdown in recent years. World Boxing Association (WBA) World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin defends his title on the show against former world champion Hasim Rahman and the winner of Haye and Chisora will be looking for a shot at Povetkin next. British talents Liam Walsh and Matthew Hall will be in title action on the card.
One of sport’s hottest talent’s Adrian Broner features LIVE on BoxNation when he defends his title against Vicente Escobedo on Saturday 21st July at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cininnati on Golden Boy Promotions card. The unbeaten star has stopped 19 out of 23 opponents and Broner’s last three fights have ended inside four rounds. A further GBP Solo Boxeo will be LIVE on BoxNation on Saturday 11th August with details announced shortly.
On Saturday 25th August it’s a double-header starting at the 02 World Arena in Berlin, Germany with Robert Steiglitz’s seventh defence of the WBO World Super-Middleweight title against Arthur Abraham and then it’s over to America for a Golden Boy Promotions Solo Boxeo show.
